Help Nokia E62 user wanting to convert to Galaxy Spica

I have been using the Nokia E62 for couple of years mostly for corporate email via Nokia's Mail for Exchange application. I just use the following features:
1. Reading, replying, sending (using the company address book once in a while) and forwarding email
2. Viewing important attachments (word, excel, images).
3. Accepting meeting invites.

I am thinking of buying a Galaxy Spica but am not sure of its email handling capacities. Can anybody let me know if I should go ahead and buy this phone keeping my above points in mind?

Android is great, and is fully capable of doing what you want. But if you need a reliable phone for your work, spend a bit more and get something like a HTC Hero. The galaxy is one of the cheapest androids, and that comes at a price

Thanks for your reply. Will the spica be able to do all the things I mentioned out of box or will I have to buy additional apps?

BTW, HTC Hero is way costly here in India and I can't afford it.

Documents to go is the app you're looking for. The free edition is for viewing only, the paid version can edit those files(supposedly).

Free edition is also limited in terms of zooming the documents, it's not very good, but yeah, it is something for nothing )

From The_Double's response it seems that I should have no problems switching from Nokia E62 to Galaxy Spica. However I have seen many threads that one needs to install apps like Touchdown to get the Exchange working. I am very confused at the moment. The problem is that in India one cannot return back the phone if the requirements are not met.

Can somebody second The_Double's opinion so that I get more confidence in buying an android phone? Also can I get IMAP working on Galaxy Spica as that might be my last alternative?

I dunno about Spica, but Android phones all have stock e-mail app (apart from gmail) which supports both pop3 and imap. And yes, there are some apps on the Market which provide MS Exchange functionality. If you don't have access to the Market, I believe you can get those apps from alternative sources.

But seriously, if you're coming from a Nokia device - nothing would be as convenient as Nokia (I had E70). It may be a bit more feature rich, a bit more fancy, but not as convenient. Still, I'm not discouraging you to buy Spica, because I don't know if Nokia's new phones on new Symbian version are any good.

I have to say I think that Android 1.5 that comes with the Galaxy/Galaxy Spica seems to young compared to other OS like WM and S60. Many glitches and users have to "hack/tweak" with different apps to get functionality...

It is said an update with Android 2.x is coming. Perhaps things will work better. But if you need "professional" use I would not choose Android yet.

Android is like a sandbox... It's new, it has a bright future, it changes a lot and we enjoy playing with it. Nokia is for productivity, everything works as it should, always, but it has limited amount of apps. Also, i think slider phones are the best for... calling.

Okej, i did some research and android 1.5 dont natively support exchange only 2.0+ does, so you will need a app that will cost you around 10 bucks. Also i agree with what the others say, android is fun, but i should not use it for work. It ain't as grown-up as a nokia Exx or a blackberry.

How about the k9-mail app? I guess I can configure IMAP using this and I should be good to go.
I am going to buy this phone this weekend for my birthday next week and would love to have a touch phone. I am kind of bored with the Nokia Exx template and I know that touch is the future. I would also like to think of myself as a geek and it would be great to flaunt a Android phone which is not that common in India .
