Report on latest firmware L3

Just loaded I7500ZHIL3 (Hong Kong) on my Samsung Galaxy. So far so good, I got the firmware off some mainland Chinese forum which also hosts I7500CHNL3 and I7500TWML3 (Taiwan Mobile).

Pictures of phone with new firmware: http://www.kingmobile.net/bbs/thread-103159-1-1.html

According to users who have been using it for over a week already, battery life is drastically improved, and it's speedier than the previous K firmware. It's still running 1.5 though...

For the adventurous, I've uploaded the firmware on to drop.io. Support for European languages such as German, English, Spanish, French, Italian, Dutch, Portuguese is standard in the ROM, although it only comes with the default Android keyboard.

So sorry about the pics...here they are

To be honest nothing that you haven't seen before... :p

-when you sai there is only android keyboard you mean there isnt any dictionary?
What I mean is that there is no extra input methods that come along with the firmware. With Asian firmwares the manufacturers usually bundle along their own IME software so users can input their native language (Japanese, Chinese, etc). This is usually why Asian firmwares tend to lag behind their European counterparts.

Samsung had their own input method called 'Samsung IME' in the I4 release but chose not to bundle it this time... big disappointment for me. Gotta rely on HTC_CIME to write Chinese.

-what are the differences betwenn those 3 firmwares?
One is the Hong Kong version (so Traditional Chinese, support for Hong Kong Chinese characters).
One is the mainland Chinese version (Simplified Chinese, WAPI instead of WIFI).
One is the Taiwan version (Traditional Chinese...probably the same as the HK one).

So, I should be able to use FUS downloader to get this? Can anyone tell me the info i need for taiwan (nation code etc...)? I can't find it anywhere (and my phone was originally from taiwan, so i would like to have this in case i have a warrantee issue.

cheers

I believe these are leaks as opposed to official releases, so patience is probably the key my friend ;)

just downloaded it (w/Taiwan settings). coming from galaxhero. lock button is much improved. that alone makes me happy. a little sluggish compared to galaxhero when scrolling the menu, but better than the II5 i had before that. looking forward to seeing the improved battery life. hope it's true. went to sleep with what looked like a nearly full battery and left the house with a dead phone. had enough.

Update :
I just had a spontaneous reboot and then the phone stuck on the samsung boot logo ad-infinitum and refused to boot. Had to hard reset. But that might have happened due to the version on HTC IME that I had installed (was for android 1.6). Trying to restore everything back as I could not take even a backup.

I dont want to save my apps, i was asking that just to know :)
Thank you anyway, knowing how to bakcup is always a good thing!

Will this firmware work correctly in europe? Im not too worried about stability (dont forget that IK5, official in italy, for some misterious reason isnt released in many countries)!

ps: flash this firmware with odin means saying goodbye to nps? I see people worrying about warrantee, reverting back to stock firmware isnt enough in case of hardware problems (assuming you can boot the device :D)?

Non ne ho idea, probabilmente nel pomeriggio provo

I have no idea, im probably going to try it when i have time, in the next hours.
Is someone knows asian firmwares dont work in europe please say it :)

I purchased my Samsung Galaxy from eBay DE before it was released in Asia. It works perfectly with the firmware so far...

UPDATE AT YOUR OWN RISK : My phone has rebooted while receiving a call and then got stuck in the infinite samsung logo loop....
I have reverted back to IK4 which has been my most stable experience till date.

I haven't experienced this yet but I will definitely echo abesh's words of wisdom - update at your own risk, since it's a leak

I've flashed it without using the CSC (dont know exactly if its good or bad :D)
It works with no problems, at least for the moment!
What i miss is a dictionary, to have auto completion and error correction. Is there any way to add it?
Reactivity and speed is quite the same as IK5, maybe a little bit faster, i will post my impressions with battery in the next days :)

edit: it looks to be less cpu hungry than IK5. You can notice it if you look at something like OSMonitor. The major cpu taker is android system itself (this happened with the previous firmware too, i think is normal on every device) so im pretty sure there were, and there are, NO applications eating battery.
My phone has always slept well and hadnt any problem with battery so i think i can judge quite well if there are improvements:)

What is the difference between I7500CHNIL3.rar and I7500ZHIL3.zip because going to download both? Which version to use for the European phone

The CHN one is not recommended...some users on the Chinese forums complained that it screwed up WIFI with WAPI, some mainland Chinese Standard.

ZH is a generic Hong Kong firmware which has all the European languages + Simplified & Traditional Chinese. Recommended for all European and Asian I7500 (NOT i7500L)

Yes hong kong version is fully functional in europe!
To be honest? I dont think is worth upgrading. In dont see any noticeable difference in battery life from IK5... Im going to keep it because it gives no problem but i wouldnt upgrade again.

The only problem you may find is the lack of a dictionary (italian dictionary is missing too).

working fine for me, market and all. But no real change in performance that I notice. if you scroll the apps up and down, it is still a little choppy. battery life looked good--2 days and progress bar had barely gone down, then day 3, it dropped quickly and i spent a day with a dead phone in my pocket. i thought the lock button seemed faster at first but after a few days, it doesn't seem like it. haven't tried gps or compass yet.
