so i plug in my phone into pc and i see both phone and sd card
but somehow when i try to move files from phone to card it says device is not connected?

it seems like i can only copy and paste on the phone itself, but can't do it on windows explorer on a pc
i can copy a file on pc and paste it onto the phone or card, just not between each other

thru a pc?

Yes through a PC. I did exactly what you stated in your first post - connected via USB and copied files from one drive to the other, in both directions.

when i copy a file and try to paste it onto the other drive, it says device does not allow file to be put here

Check folder properties to see if any are marked read-only.

oh i can only paste into the folders i created? i was trying to paste it into a folder the system made like LOST.DIR or DCIM
how do i know if it's read only?

nope, i created a temp folder on the card and tried to paste somethign in there same result

no it's hooked up thru a usb, not a direct mount
i'm guessing software on the phone does not allow transfer between 2 drives thru a usb. but if u r rooted it takes away that restriction

wrog guessing. this has nothing to do with rooting. i tried to do exactly what u wrote i first post and no problems at all, working fine in both directions. either sth is wrong with ur sd card or u got sth wrong in settings...

ok i found out wut happened
i have been connecting the phone using usb and let the pc pick it up, i did not manually go to the phone's usb utility and connect from there
if i click connect, it works
but if i just plug in usb, it doenst

i just realized it does not work in MTP mode, which is auto detect
