Hi, i need help woth how android works with emails. I previously always pop'd my emails down to my laptop using exchange. Recently, my wife gave me a tablet (ie samsung galaxy tablet). I then proceeded to configure the tablet (using gmail android) to access the same email accounts. My problem now is, whenever i check mails using the tablet, the emails disappear after being read!? I can't find the mails that i previously read anywhere!!! Even going back to my outlook mail app in my laptop, the emails that i read in the tablet are not downloaded anymore. I can't understand what's happening here. . . Can somebody help me please?

"How Android works with emails" is extremely vague. Your specific email app is more important than Android (the OS).

My problem now is, whenever i check mails using the tablet, the emails disappear after being read!? I can't find the mails that i previously read anywhere!!! Even going back to my outlook mail app in my laptop, the emails that i read in the tablet are not downloaded anymore.
That is odd. Reading on one POP client shouldn't affect other POP clients. There are some POP clients that simply mirror what is on the POP server. You might want to verify that you're actually using a POP account. I'm not aware of any settings that will make Outlook sync with a POP server. Check to make sure that you don't have any settings to remove email after X number of days.

Any changes to your tablet email app shouldn't affect whatever Outlook has downloaded if you're using POP.

Thanks for your reply takeshi. Apologies, I think I didn't elaborate clearly enough. What is actually happening is that everytime I read an email in my tablet, after reading it and closing the email (or gmail) app, the email simply disappears and is nowhere to be found. I tap on the tablet to go to the inbox and the mails are not there anymore.

What I was hoping for was that the email would remain there (as seen in the tablet) until I pop'd it from the server via outlook in my laptop. (I hope this makes sense).

I think I'm beginning to understand it better now. After having tested a few more mails to and from my tablet. It seems that when I get email in my tablet, once read, they really do disappear but are still on the server and can be downloaded by my outlook (hopefully).

I eventually installed K9 Mail as it has a lot more configuration settings that help make it easier.

Did I understand it correctly? Hoping for some answers....

Search your settings for "read", or "leave on server" options. They should not disappear.

Thanks for your reply tcat. The closest thing I found in K9 config was "Fetching mail" settings within Account settings. And in it, the closest thing to what you suggested are:
Sync server deletions (remove messages when deleted on server)
When I delete a message (Do not delete on server)

Probably due to my ignorance at this point with K9 configuration but I don't see any settings to leave mails on the server.

On a separate note, I tested again and emails are so far staying within the tablet (I haven't opened my outlook to pop mails in my laptop). So this is looking good so far.

Finally, problem solved! I feel so stupid. Remind me never to use POP again. All I had to do was switch to IMAP. Feel like banging my head against a wall. So that's why the emails go missing, they're popped down from the server and when the server thinks its been deleted, the synch deletes them from the tablet eventually.

Switched to IMAP and now I can see all the emails in my inbox (as well as on the server).
