Root [CDMA] Simple qHD splash image I cooked up for the Evo 3D

Just wanted to share my custom splash image I'm using on my Evo 3D. Credit goes to androidpolice for the image idea.

According to the instructions I followed to create the zip file, this only works with the Evo 3D, so no promises if you have a Sensation or other qHD phone.


Instructions (need to be rooted):

Place zip into your /root directory (drag the file onto your sd card without placing it in a folder)
Rename zip to PG86IMG (remove -got-root)
Reboot into hboot
Select yes
Delete file after you've rebooted
Voila

OP, I think you need to reboot into bootloader, not recovery although I haven't tried loading your splash.

yup, should be HBOOT, not recovery.

Is there a difference between "splash" and "boot animation"?

I changed my IMG file in hboot, and it now gives me my "HTC EVO 3D" at initial start, then switches to normal "Android" until load is complete. Is there anything custom that can be done to replace the "Android" pic?

Splash image is the image you see before the animation starts. The instructions in the op are for changing your splash image to the one posted.

Not sure. I've never done it since I run MIUI and can just do it from within my theme chooser, but I believe it involves placing a qhd compatible boot animation zip into a system folder and renaming the old one so you don't loose it. A Google search should point you in the right direction.
