Root ROOT Acquired!

Wireless tether does NOT work guys.

Upon turning on the tethering, it brings up Verizon's built in tethering settings. No bueno. :(

This is in the newest beta version of Wireless tether. I'll try the latest "stable" release in a minute, but I assume the results will be the same.

edit-
Uh oh.
Really really no bueno at this point.
3G was dropped upon starting the app, and now I can't use data at all.
Now opening my phone's browser simply takes me here.

Be careful. Rebooting my phone to see if 3G is restored. Otherwise, I'm screwed.

edit again-
Phew, dodged that bullet. 3G was restored upon reboot.
So basically NO WIRELESS TETHER.

I might give wired tether a wack in a minute.

Nice find ^^

I'm going to go ahead and give that a shot. Wish me luck. :D

Btw, it's ok to post that here with credits:

1. Make sure you have Motorola drivers installed - LINK to x64 drivers
2. Download and unzip 'Droid 3 easy root script v5' - LINK Droid 3 easy root script v5
3. On your phone: Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging(check box)
4. Plug phone into computer and select "Charge Only" mode
5. Navigate to 'Droid 3 easy root' folder and run 'Click to root your Droid 3.bat'
6. Now just follow the instructions in the command window and unlock the phone after each reboot.

You now have a rooted Droid 3 thanks to the hard work of the following:

djrbliss - finding the exploit
framework43 - writing the one click
psouza4 - fixing and refining the one click
krazykrivda - gathering developers and making stuff happen
Not exactly as newer versions are now up at rootzwiki. Version 7 now.

noob question, did my phone unroot? I was downloaded titanium backup free, and it detected it, then i deleted because i realized i need pro to freeze bloatware, i couldn't find pro, so i asked for my refund, then i realized i needed titanium backup free in order to download pro...so now whenever i download it, it says it cannot detect root

You probably had a superuser time out. Turn on the super user , then back out. now not turn on titanium. If that does not work, reboot and try titanium again.

I'm confused. Maybe I'm missing something but I don't have a 3G hotspot app. I have a tethering option (either wi-fi or USB) in wireless and networks options in settings. I've turned this on, and it hasn't increased my phone bill and hasn't added the $20/mo for 3G hotspot. So I guess my question is, what is the big deal with looking for a workaround for tethering, which I've seen people talk about on here and over on xda. And I did this before root...

I'm going to go ahead and report what's going on with my D3 after this root and after my "house cleaning."

In that post up there from earlier this morning I listed four items that I'd frozen and that elicited FCs. Well, following a restart of the device, no FCs. Not one.

Everything worked fine, so I went ahead and removed those and many more (I'll provide a list in a bit), saw some more FCs here and there, kept hitting the ok button and then restarted the device again.

I've removed over twenty items from /system/app and have halted six services outright, all with no ill effects.. and the thing is showing signs of the snappiness I was looking for.

Right now I'm getting ready to expand the allocated storage area a bit, then have a go with SetCPU for a battery saving profile.

I'd like to hear from users who have touched a few of the Blur items, I have not yet.. I guess I can live with that. ;)
