Trying out launcher pro. Seems a little bit faster. using a rooted phone with the stock froyo. Moved it to sd because I have hardly any space on the phone and the file is big. Still sometimes gets the same crappy lag the stock launcher has where when you close an app all shortcuts disappear for a while then reappear. Another annoying thing is when it sometimes reverts back to the stock launcher. Go sms pro does that with the messenger also. trying it out to see if I want to keep it.

Long press on the call end button when you are at the home screen & you get a pop-up to select a default launcher.

Also,w/LAUNCHER PRO,or,any launcher for that matter,it will work MUCH BETTER when it is moved back to the phone's internal storage.LAUNCHER PRO PLUS has more features, including memory settings, that may help w/the lag & shortcut issues.

To make even more room on internal memory,I'd root & install TITANIUM BACK-UP PRO &/or LINK2SD.
Both have features to move even more data to the SD Card than stock FROYO.

I use the stock one. Everyone Ive ever tried either is never right, time doesnt stay sync'd, kills my battery, or wont show the "current" temp and only shows the overall high and low.

+1 These add-on Weather Widgets consume a lot of resources, something our phones are sorely lacking (weak CPU,no GPU to speak of).

Maybe it's just me,but,I don't understand the need/want for a CLOCK/WEATHER widget.
I already know what the weather is gonna be like & there is a clock in the notification bar.
I utilize the stock clock widget & minimize the size to 1x1 to use as a shortcut to the alarm. (VERY COOL)!
A slick looking, simple clock widget available on the market is HONEYCOMB CLOCK.It's lightweight & doesn't bog the homescreen down w/lagginess.

I'd go another route to dress up the phone/homescreen that doesn't use up a lot of resources & bog the phone down.
My suggestion would be to root, install CM7 & utilize the THEME CHOOSER.(100'S of themes to choose from @ XDA DEVELOPERS & the ANDROID MARKET).

Hey guys and girls...ive been spending a week or so in the forums while at work. and stumbled upon a forum just for ppl like me with e huawei ascend, pretty cool. so i have the 2.2 upgrade and have minimal experience so far. you all sound like a pretty seasoned bunch so im here to ask for any tips/pointers on improving my android experience i love the android tech. and would def love to delve further into its greatness! thanks for taking your time to point a NooB in the right direction.
~May the force be with you~

A couple of apps that I feel are a must-have for the Android experience (especially on a lower end phone like the Ascend) are: Launcher Pro (replaces your desktop app, much faster, free with paid version for more features), Smart Keyboard Pro (keyboard replacement with user-dictionary autocorrect, look/feel customization, paid app), and Widgetlocker (lock screen replacement, complete customization and about the only lock screen replacement that's actually stable, paid app). Those three apps will make your phone much more accessible and custom-tailored to you specifically. The various SMS apps I can take or leave, though I tend to stick with GO sms as the stock messaging app is meh. I'm a utility kind of guy, so the games, social-networking, and "pop these bubbles for dumb amusement" sort of apps generally bore me and wind up uninstalled very quickly.
Edit: Afterthought: I also suggest Zedge for a pretty wide selection of wallpapers and ringtones/notification tones. Not the greatest, and there are plenty of decent ringtone making apps, but I use Zedge because I'm too lazy to make my own. Lol.

the best App for me has to be ADW Launcher Ex (paid version), with it i had added a couple of themes, has many features like 4D scrolling on app drawer, screen transition effect which i love alot. & it runs really well with no hic-ups on the Ascend.

I tried ADW, and while I like the customization, it always lags on my phone. So I stick with Launcher Pro. Smoothest launcher I've had yet.

Also putting it on my phone is not an option I only have 18.20 mb free.
But over 20 gig free on sd. Droidwall and Titanium backup are installed on the phone. I assume those apps need to run from the phone. If I had a suggestion of what apps to move from phone to sd might be able to free more space on phone. usually I have moved anything that could possibly be moved to sd and my phone still has hardly any space. I have been rooted for quite some time. I have no idea how to set keep in memory options for the launcher. or the speed to 90. or opening speed to 9.or scrolling. where are the control options for lp?By the way I have zero widgets.

Could I then move it to the sd? need ideas of what else to try and move.

If I could move some stuff potentially I could create space to move lp back to the phone.

However it still seems to run better than default launcher even from the sd.

But if moving it back to the phone can help the hesitation and make it perform better I might if someone can give me possible suggestions of what else I could move to sd to clear space.

Right now even with the little space on the phone everything is working correctly.

Goto menu > settings > applications > manage applications and tap on an app. If it's safe to move to SD, it'll have the option. I'd suggest keeping your launcher in internal, and maybe commonly used apps that seem to need more processing power. Moving to SD is handy, but makes for a slower loading app. SD Boost helps this greatly, though.

Hit menu, and it should be preferences I believe. "Settings" is phone settings, and "Preferences" is Launcher Pro settings. That's how you get to launcher settings for most launchers.
If you're running CM7, you can find "Lock home in memory" in menu > settings > cyanogenmod settings > performance. Just keep poking around in settings for many of those options. For a stock ROM I'm not quite sure if there is a setting for it. You could still make your launcher Hard-To-Kill, but it can get a bit tricky.

I am rooted and I have been able to move apps with option to move.
I have also been able to force move all apps that cannot be moved with titanium
Backup except for zdnet. It is insulting my questions are moved to stupid questions.
I have chosen to use stock froyo not cm os. I only have 18.5 Mb left on my
phone. l do not give a care what can only be moved on a non rooted android.
I just want suggestions on what i can forcefully move safely to make
space on my phone to possibly move lp back to the phone.

However you could have just said to make lp a system app and
Delete the default launcher. Did that with much success. Also converted
You Tube to a user app and moved to sd. Just saying to move it to the phone
When There is no space is useless. When I am doing it in froyo cm7 is also irrelevant.
Unless it is similar.

Well, the thread isn't really full of stupid questions. There are no stupid questions (almost.) It's more of a thread of questions that really have no other place to be. Don't be insulted. I have several on there, and I'm not.

Sorry for being so useless. Maybe someone else can actually be useful, read your mind, and figure out what you're really trying to ask. Or maybe you could realize that you probably don't need tons of apps on a low-end phone. Or even try DarkTremor's A2SD and increase your memory. But, you know, that would require a search...

I havnt seen why this would be insulting and this is the first time i seen someone said something like this and there are alot of post that gets moved here, and also a reason why it was moved was, there are alot of the same questions that has been ask/answer over a thousand times and we manage to put them all under one topic so others can see and find a solution to the same problems another might be having, and this thread is popular and you will most likely get a fast response cause this thread is constantly viewed. But if you feel its a problem or you feel we did any harm which i seen none, my apology to you. But i seen you mad another thread of the same so this might get merge also. We Have To Keep This Forum Clean And Free Of SPAM...

You did an AWESOME JOB and its well appreciated cause you could have just not said anything but being the good person you are you did and Credit is awarded to you... :)

Launcher Pro? I wasn't aware there was a thing on this phone. o_O

Launcher Pro, ADW Launcher, Zeam Launcher, Go Launcher EX, etc. There are any number of them, although those 4 are the ones I'd recommend on the Ascend. I'm sure there are more that run fine on the Ascend, but I haven't tried them all (yet.) A lot of the others you'll find on the market are for higher end phones and tend to bog down on Ascends (yeah, I'm talking about you, Regina 3D Launcher.) There are a few I've seen on there that work in conjunction with your home launcher. Circle Launcher is one, Wave Launcher is another, though I believe these "launchers" are actually closer to being widgets.

You can use any one you wish, they're all similar for the most part. FP, ADW, and Go all have plenty of options, while Zeam is lighter with far fewer options. If you find the time, try out a different one now and then. That's how I've found my favorites.

edit: I was looking for a new launcher myself, and ended up posting this Big List of Home Launchers.

Hello, I may just be having a brain fart but I cant get LauncherPro to work with the newest build of CM7... before I just went into my settings and changed my end button behaviour to take me to the home screen and it gave me the option to make it the default... Now I cant find the option to change the end button behavior at all, I hate that it puts my phone to sleep, any help with this is appreciated :)

Nevermind found it, please delete this post
