Everyone here has a point, but so does the DOJ and the FDA. What passes as ok and safe in Canada (or any other country on this earth for that matter) may not pass as ok and safe in the USA.

Whether it's their primary concern or not I find irrelevant. If you let drug companies from Canada send scripts over the border, you end up letting similar scripts over from just about anywhere. Gotta draw the line somewhere, and I think rightfully so. That may not be the main goal of these fines, but the message being sent is an accurate one; don't be sending foreign drugs into the American market without going through the proper channels.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but technically these drugs in question were not required to comply with any regulations in the US or Canada. My understanding was that the drugs were manufactured in Canada, but didn't have to comply with Canadian regulations as long as they shipped to an address in the US. The US had no regulatory power here as the drugs were manufactured in Canada.

FDA: Harsh Criticism From Within

"He says part of the problem is the way the FDA is funded. Approximately half of the FDA's budget for regulating the drug industry comes from the drug industry itself, in the form of fees paid to speed up the process of drug approval.

"One of my previous bosses, who's now gone off to work for a drug company, he told me that industry was our client," says Graham. "And my response back to him was, 'Industry may be your client, but it will never be my client.'"
