Help OK to use chargers from other devices? (sure)

Look at the input/output voltage and amp on the charger to make sure it is the same as the OEM that came with the phone. Also, make sure it is a quality cord. The one that came with your evo 4g will most likly suffice. Use the "Elixir" application to confirm same wall/battery current berfore any long term use.

WARNING: I bought some cheap wall chargers on ebay that turned out to be fakes and did not charge my 3VO. I received refunds but was a waste of time nonetheless.

I want to charge my phone here at work, but the only charger here is from someone else's LG phone. It has a B mini usb end (which I'm pretty sure is the same as the real charger) and it fits ok.. Is this alright? Will this damage my phone or battery in anyway?

I've used LG & Motorola chargers for my phone with no problems. I would suspect the only time an issue would come up is if the charger has a different output that is greater than what the stock one uses.

This is off of my stock charger:

Input 100-240V ~200mA 50-60Hz
Output 5V -- 1A

the amps will kill electronics but USB is a standard, its not just the shape, every micro USB should be the same so you should be fine

Incorrect.

When charging any DC device, it's the adapter's output VOLTAGE that you want to be concerned with. That must match the device input voltage design. The adapter should ideally match the same current (amps), but higher than spec will not damage the device, and lower than spec may result in slow charging.

To the extent a device can accept more amps, it will charge faster, but it will only consume as much as is necessary/by design.

to directly answer the OPs question, in YOUR situation you can use that other charger just fine. I personally use multiple USB cables and multiple vehicle DC chargers as well as wall chargers with NO issues whatsoever. I mainly share the novatel Mifi 4G hotspot box's charger betwixt the evo 3D, the mifi itself and LG BT phones i use. keeps down on clutter from having to take multiple cables.

Neotrix is pretty much dead on with the assessment of using USB chargers and there really does not need to be much more EXTRA discussion on it. The OPs question has been answered here.

As long as it's micro usb you will be fine. The chargers can be from 1/2A to 1A output generally. The only problem you will encounter is a slower charging rate. If you're not in a hurry and want to save some $$$ go online. Personally I've had great success with my old Pre wall charger and the Motorola SPN5400A car charger at about $5 each.

The USB standard is 5V + or - 5% ... which means that as long as the charger outputs below 5.25V it is safe to use

Is that safe to use with this phone being as the wats are higher on the car charger than the evo3d boxed charger

I wouldn't go above 5.25 volts ... My car charger is only 4.5 volts

Hey folks - My wife and I are loving our new 3vo's and can't believe how much are lives have changed from going from junky flip phones to these awesome machines.

My question pertains to those of you who have car chargers. Is is a bad idea to save a few bucks (on one site, 10) for a non-HTC car charger? I understand that you can't go wrong with going official, but maybe it's okay?

Thoughts? Especially your thoughts about this in general. I know there are a lot of products made available for different units that cover a wide range of phones, but is it safe?

Lastly, what about the case debate? On the one hand, I have different fingers...(thank you Steven Wright). But seriously, on the one hand I'm leaning towards the popular brands of cases (Seidio, Otterbox) thanks to this forum. On the other, what about the brand at Target? Or Radioshack? Do those brands work, just not "as well"?

Well for starters, those cheap car charges work but they aren't rated as high when it comes to giving enough of a charge so when using one of these cheap chargers while lets say using gps your phone could still lose its charge even though its plugged into the charger but if the phone is not being used then it should be ok. So spend the extra few $'s and get a decent car charger. As far as a case, you can't go wrong with a TPU case. They are very durable and extremely inexpensive, avg price on ebay is about 3 to 4 bucks and you can get them in all sorts of designs and colors to match your personal tastes. Otterbox and some of the other name brand cases can get a little pricey but they do offer excellent protection and style but to me its not any better than a standard TPU case. I have dropped my phone a few times with the tpu case and not a single scratch and this included concrete surfaces.

When it comes to car chargers, the cheap ones might work for a little while, but if you use them a lot, they tend to break fast. I stay away from the cheap ones. I use the Sprint or HTC chargers. You can find them on Ebay for cheap.

The Motorola SPN 5400A car charger will run your GPS + Pandora and still charge your phone. I've been using them for about 2 years with no trouble. They are about $5 on ebay/Amazon.

For a TPU case TPU-Cases.com are very well made.
