Awe... Now i have to decide whether to accept 2.1 when it goes out OTA or play the waiting game and live with 1.5 til we get root! Decisions decisions.......

Keep up the great work guys and God bless! -I fully realize that the devs will probs never see that post but it doesnt hurt to scream my appreciation into an empty room :)-

LOL...it is apprerciated :)
and more Devs are watching and poking around than you might imagine...
Support and appreciation is always welcome man!

how long does it usually take to make a rom?

Thats kinda tricky...
I come from WinMo and i still make my owns ROMs and at first it took me awhile, but now its just random bug fixing and small updates so just a weekend for me...
But thats because I have the order right and trial and error done...
There is already a ROM ready by one of the Devs....and its just stock ROM with all the Verizon Bloat and crap removed...
But of course the goal is 2.1...
So it will be a buggy trial and error period I would imagine...
But you never know..

Pardon a potentially stupid question from somebody who doesn't know what he's talking about, but this blog is claiming the kernel the source code is built on can't handle 2.1 (claims Eris is built on 2.6.26, and that 2.1 requires 2.6.29)... is this true? If so, what kinds of headaches are involved for you folks in trying to update it?

Either way, thanks again for all you guys are doing, and for taking the time to keep us schmucks up to speed.

I understand. I mess around with Windows OS a lot, so I understand where you're coming from.

Well its all a headache at times....
I read the blog you pointed out and it is partially true, but its an issue that will have to crossed when we get there...the Xda Hero forums already have root and we arent quite looking past that yet..

ok so heres my wish list. for when the really really smart guys get this thing rooted.

1. get rid of all the verizon branded junk.
2. 2.1 plus overclocking

im good to go.:D just a suggestion if anyone is paying attention.;)

Well:
1. That's a given! One of our Devs already has a ROM like that ready :)
2. Thats gonna take more work...but thats the goal :)
As far as overclocking goes...I think some is good...but not crazy...like those Droid guys overclocked to 800! LOL. Dont wanna fry our Eris :)

yeah i was thinking 650 ish.;)just enough to run 2.1 without any major lag.

but my wife does want to overclock her droid to 800. and she wants me to do it. i had a hard enough time rooting her phone, but if there is a idiot proof way to do it without it being too complicated then i guess i will do it for her. plus she can pay for it if i screw it up.:D

LOL...to be honest with you...I think 800 is to much...just my opinion..
As far as ours is concerned..we will see.

I wouldn't mind trying for a true 528 or maybe even just 500 if it is true that HTC has underclocked it so much. I don't know if I would push it much farther beyond 550 though. The battery life is still important to me.

id like to see what 600+ can do for our phones. but nothing crazy like 800. if 650 makes our phones run the 2.1 rom without issues that would be awsome. i kinda like the live wallpapers. plus battery issues with me is non issue with me because i cant take my phone into work with me, and i usually just plug it back in when im commuting.

800 will make our phones explode!
But seriously, I can see that 600 or so would be a great boost to us, especially when I am using SweeterHomePreview2.

The minute it happens I will post!
Then we will be hosting on our new site, tutorials and files for root...once we have it of course :)
