The wife and I each have a Droid3, about 3 weeks old. Got them at the same time. We were early adopters of the original Droid the month it came out, so after almost three years, I figured it was time to upgrade again.
Last night, they both went on their chargers to juice up over night and this morning, mine was dead. I assumed I hadn't gotten the USB fully plugged in and the battery died, but when I plugged it back in - nothing.
Plugging it in didn't activate the status light and didn't power the phone on. I pulled the battery, put it back in - nothing.
I let it sit plugged in for 30 minutes, then tried again - nothing.
I took out the battery, plugged in the charger - nothing.
I unplugged the charger, took out the SIM and the SD, reinstalled each, plugged in the charger - nothing.
I've run out of options, short of a hard reset - which ticks me off, as Ive got the phone set up with everything I needed, just the way I wanted it. It's no fun getting 7 email accounts and all the right apps back in, getting all the widgets and shortcuts back in place, etc.
The only thing out-of-the-ordinary that I'd installed was the working video Skype apk which was working brilliantly with video features enabled, by the way.
The wife's phone also has most of the same apps, including the new Skype apk...and it is fine this AM.
Anybody else experience this yet? Anyone know how to hard reset a dead device, or is it a must return situation. I see what looks like a reset button (pushpin type) but it doesn't appear to actually depress, like it's only a tiny hollow cylinder.
Experts...please advise!!!!!!! thx
UPDATE: Just for kicks, figured I'd test the battery...took out the wife's battery and put it in mine - WORKS FINE! Sooo, after three weeks of use (and properly letting it drain down, not overcharging it, etc) , I have a toasted battery. Nice.
UPDATE#2: On the way to the Verizon store this AM (before the Hurricane came calling) I figured I'd try the Moto fast car charger to help determine if I had a bad charger or a bad battery. I was confounded that when I took the battery out this morning at home and plugged in the phone on its charger, it didn't come on???) and voila, the phone sprang to life on the car charger and reported 20% (I have a feeling it reports 20% as a default, because the battery was clearly discharged completely). At the Verizon store, we tested the charger, it worked fine, and we tested the battery - stored a charge but seemed to take too long to fully charge...so now I'll keep watching the battery to make sure it operates normally. They will replace the battery with a new one for the first year, so I've got 11 months
