Help Caution/Warning: Sweating on HTC EVO

Came in after my run today cuz I'm a big mama, but I received a phone call so I answered my EVO. Got some sweat from my face on the screen protector. I wiped the sweat off the phone. Screen froze a little but I hit the power button to put the phone to sleep, the hit the button again. Screen had unfrozen. Then I decided to make a call and one drop of sweat got onto the phone and the motion sensor wouldn't allow me to bring the screen back on after moving the phone away from my face. Wiped the sweat off, then the motion sensor worked again. I know someone on here said their EVO got messed up after answering a phone call while running on the treadmill at the gym. Their sweat jacked up the phone. Good idea to have screen protector and case on your EVO if you like to take the phone to the gym with you. And if you are all sweaty, wipe your hands before touching the phone and DO NOT ALLOW sweat from your face to get onto the screen. Water or sweat on top of the screen protector interferes with touch sensitivity.

i dont know what to say or think about this...

very hard for me.. to believe .. sweat (any liquid) on screen would affect it.. that way.

it may register the warm material as a touch... but not ruin anything.

What would happen if you got water on a computer? Like I said, getting water or sweat on the phone interferes with touch sensitivity and motion sensor. Even with a screen protector on. Not sure if it will ruin the phone, but if the sweat or water gets into the phone---bye bye EVO.

the front is glass... all glass.... nothing but glass....

what do you drink in? glasses made of glass... wet, salty, sugary, etc... even acid can be contained in glass....


something on the front glass of the evo .. will not damage what is underneath.
it has to get past the glass and into the phone to do damage..

Water on a computer screen does nothing. I clean my computer screen with water all the time. And its fine. I spray glass cleaner on my evo screen and its fine.

Though I wouldn't be surprised if water or sweat affected the touch sensitivity or the proximity sensor temporarily while its wet. But should be fine when wiped off as experienced.

Water or sweat inside of a monitor or your evolution could do permanent damage tho. And I wouldn't be surprised if sweat was slightly more corrosive do to being salty.

pass a product that .. broken by sweat?? we all sweat.. some a lot...






apple did pass, approve, and built the iphone 4 ... with an external antenna .. hhmmm...
but that did not break the phone..

Do you use mineral water or drinking water on your computer screen? I use screen wipes and tap water has minerals in it, which will damage your screen. So I assume you put water on your $3000, TV sets too? Not this guy!

I have to agree with Big Mamma. I've had mine freeze up and go a little crazy if I answer it when I'm sweaty. I've seen postings on here about the same thing as well. I'm not worried about it getting inside though. It just tends to make the touch screen very laggy

I just won't answer my phone when sweating but its a good caution to throw out there since someone lost their EVO due to answering the phone while sweaty on a treadmill. Pouring some beer outside right now for the loss of that EVO.

I don't think the Op is saying their screen broke. Go do an intense workout and then dripping with sweat try and use your phone normally. For some reason it does mess with the touch sensitivity. Maybe it is the increased body heat.... No clue but it has happened to me too.

I use tap water which is drinking water. 3 years of cleaning my TV and 4 with my monitor and they both look perfect. Of course they don't get very dirty so they don't need much hard cleaning. Not really sure what your so worried about TV and computers screens for. Does your family have a lot of food fights by the TV or something?

I'm just saying they sell wipes for electronics at Best Buy and Walmart. Yes, rubbing tap water on a TV is bad. When the Sears guy came to service my TV he didn't wipe down my screen with tap water. Just saying tap water has minerals and chlorine in it. Not good to rub chlorine and minerals across a $3000 tv or $500 laptop.

I am having the same problem with my EVO. I have a Seidio case and screen protector on my phone though. I have a friend that has an evo with a different screen protector on his and does not have this problem. I was wondering how many of you that are having this problem have a screen protector on their phone and if so what kind. I was just trying to figure out if this has something to do with the problem or not.

Took the phone to the Sprint store and they cited water damage as the culprit, however through much interrogation I believe my gf when she swears she didn't drop it in anything or leave it outside.

**We had been on vacation during the heat wave and while it was 110 outside, our hotel was a cool 65- 70. Store associate said this could be a problem from high- heat to cool temps. I just feel that in such a quick time that scenario is a bit extreme for the level of damage shown.

The phone is 8 months old and in otherwise impeccable condition.

My question is this, has anyone else had issues similar to this? Part of me feels as though the handset is manufacturing error that just happens. As in, of every say, 100,000 handset, 1,000 are bound to have some issue.

No insurance on that phone specifically either.

Would contacting HTC resolve any of this issue? Or is it best to just deal with a new phone. This one was $200 w/ a two- yr contract and not even a year has gone by.

always get insurance on high end super phones.

contracting HTC will bear no fruit. the evo is no longer being made.

you are better off finding a replacement screen or purchasing a used evo or maybe even a new handset/model.

I remember a thread quite a while back where the OP had condensation build up on their phone due to being in FLA with the AC on in their car. The hot/cold transition was the cause of the condensation, but I don't think anything 'bad' was the result. It was a while ago though.

Maybe it's just me, but 1) if I was sweaty, I'm sure I'd clean off before using my phone, and 2) if I was sweaty, I would wipe the sweat from my face before answering my phone.
That might be a possible FIX for this 'issue'.
