Root [CDMA] TWRP or CWM?

I have a question.. TWRP or CWM? Which is better? whats the Difference? I have CWM because when I did my HTC Unlock I dont think you could use TWRP at the time and I had to use CWM. Can I switch to TWRP? Any info here would be greatly appreciated as I don't know which I should be using. I read several places that TWRP is better with more features..

If you're unable to load CWM 4.0.1.5 and are still on CWM 4.0.1.4, then TWRP is definitely the way to go. CWM 4.0.1.4 cannot charge while power is off. That right there would be a dealbreaker for me, and should be a concern for anyone else.

However, if the newest version is available and you're doing a comparison, I like CWM a slight bit better. TWRP didn't clear out my batt stats properly. I don't know if that's only my unit or other people see it as well. But it's organized a little better and is more noob-friendly, IMO. Except if you select the wrong thing. Sometimes it doesn't let you back out. Like I forgot to wipe my dalvik one time, and had already selected to flash a zip from SD card, I couldn't exit back to the menu to wipe dalvik. I never liked that about TWRP. But, like I said, it is organized a little better and is customizable, to a degree. And the customized way of doing backups is neat.

CWM does everything it needs to do, does it well, just is not organized in a way that you would expect.

The latest version of cwm is perfectly fine...especially if you are used to it. If anything, the cwm folks have been continuously modifying their product and I think the .05 version works great. Anyway, have used them for over a year and never a problem.

Yep, I used ROM Manager. I don't really use ROM Manager for anything else but it sure makes it easy to keep your cwm up to date. Your very first choice when opening the app is "Flash Clockwork Mod Recovery". ANd below it it should display your current version of recovery in small print. At the top you will see ROM Manager 4.3.3.0...just realize that is only the version of ROM Manager and has absolutely nothing to do with the version of recovery you are running or are about to flash. A lot of people used to get confused about that.

CWM sucks... I wont get into why... But I will list just a couple reasons why I like twrp....


1. This is the most important for me... (im a rapid flasher) It has a check box to aut reboot on completion of flash. I dont have to baby sit the ROMS I am building. One automated step that saves me alot of time.

2. It has themes.

3. Its by teamwin

Thats all for now. Like I said I have personal angst with the developers of CWM.

While I use CWM, thanked and quoted for being 100000000000% correct. I don't think you can *really* go wrong either way.

To be honest, the only reason I went with CWM is because it was the incumbent, and is a proven commodity having been around for so long now.

I had an issue where a NANDroid made with TWRP 1.0.0 could not be restored with TWRP 1.0.2. I'm chalking it up to new-release glitches, so in the meantime, I'm using CWM.

I do prefer the extra functionality of TWRP, though I can also understand that CWM is extremely portable between devices because they don't go too crazy with adding new features.

The back up issue the mod referred to was due to incremental changes in the recovery itself. Kinda like if you upgrade from XP to Win7 you may a glitch with your backed up files not being compatible (best example I can think of, sorry). Now that they are on 1.0.3 and have not changed for weeks this point is 100% mute.

twrp is easier to use (user friendly), has more functionality and you can change the way it looks...

What more can I say, I am fanboy of teamwin and I never heard of them until the 3D.

A lot of people prefer CWM because they can use ROM Manager with it. When I rooted and flashed on my Optimus S you couldn't use ROM Manager, you had to manually go into recovery and flash everything manually regardless of what you used. I got accustomed to that and it is good to know because if you don't and can't get to your screen for some reason you still know how to get to recovery. Imho if you are going to root and mod your phone you also need to be familiar with adb so you can access your device when all else fails and the experts here are trying to help In short, while some may think TWRP is not as convenient I personally prefer it because it is very stable and you aren't as prone to getting lazy

+1 ^^^ I will give you devils advocate, it will most likely be something like, when you are accustomed to using something you simply do not like change. That would be the easiest way for me to describe it, in his case I believe since he has never used either one, then I would say use TWRP. With that being said I prefer CWM only and I say only because I have used it for a couple of years and I am use to using it, period. I have never used the RM app to do anything other than update or flash a recovery, I whole heartily agree you need to boot into recovery without the app, as that will avoid issues down the road. Simply my 2 cents

I used twrp when it was first released and ran into a few problems. I liked twrp a lot, but decided I'd stick with cwm until all the bugs were worked out.

Sounds like it is more stable now, so it might be time to switch back.

it looks no different that their previous recovery. perhaps just bug fixes maybe more menu items havent gone through it all
