Root another AOSP option... TheROM

Interesting seems to be built as pure AOSP not based on CM or OMGB. I may flash this to try it out growing bored of theory

i actually will prolly flash it too at some point, since i do suffer from rom ADD  i cant go more than a few days without flashing something :D

i have a feeling ill always be back to th3ory,tho,between the speed/smoothness and the burnt ui.

i got the same impression of it,and anymore am so spoiled by cm7 its hard to not have some of CMs tweeks.

definately let us know how "pure" it is and how well it works if you flash before i do :)

Don't bother this is basically an old version of OMGB it even says OMGB on the lock screen and then started bootlooping on me. The short period I could run it I saw it is pure vanilla, no customization. I didn't overclock. Also SPB shell wouldn't load only FC never had that problem with any rom. If you want a vanilla experience go with OMGB it isn't nearly as broken as this rom.

I really don't know what went wrong with it seemed to be going okay. I rebooted it loaded to the lock screen and bootlooped over and over. The rom feels exactly like OMGB, the gapps zip has an old version of the market. If it indeed not developed from OMGB it is amazing that someone could create a rom so similar. I am all for new devs creating new roms for users but see no reason someone would create a rom that really didn't do anything that hasn't already been done with no bells and whistles.

Rebooting issue was more than likely a kernel thing but I didn't feel like messing with it further as I had seen what the rom was about and I knew I would be restoring to shift theory

This one actually caught my eye. I liked that it went through multiple revisions and testing before we saw a flashable version. I was hoping it would be more polished because of it.

I was just waiting for someone to theme it before I gave it a shot.

Which brings me to another question... is it just me, or is plain Jane GB plain and boring looking when not themed? Looks way too outdated and I even like simple themes for the most part..

well, no offense, but how many ways can you build pure AOSP gingerbread? ;) its no wonder it looks and feels like OMGB if its not themed or changed much from source. looking at the special thanks section,it looks like he did use OMGB source code. i dont know if i just missed that or its changed, but i remember being under the impression he built it from AOSP source, not OMGB source. makes me not as anxious to try it,ive not yet tried BAMFs OMGB based rom either.

its sposed to be lightweight and fast,if it was that, it would be a good option for folks to run,who are into purity.

yeah,im with you there. as i mentioned im pretty spoiled by CM tweeks at this point. its nice to run a pure AOSP rom now and then to remind yourself how great cm is,lol. i cant run it for too long just like i cant run sense more than a couple days  i start to really miss black backgrounds, modded power control widget, and the toggles in the pull down.

Coming from a bunch of Sense ROMS, I actually enjoy "simple" nature of GB. SHIFT does have CM7, while that's fine and all, I actually downloaded the stock GB launcher to make the experience complete.

None taken. Yeah I read the OP before installing, I must have overlooked that as well

It is unclear as to if he used OMGB source for just the settings apk or if he used OMGB as a source like BAMF did. I would think it is the latter. Looks like he took OMGB and stripped it down some and added Launcher pro. I know he says it is because they were already testing the rom when 2.3.5 came out and that is why it is running 2.3.4 but that is also the most recent OMGB rom and 2.3.5 was out over a month ago.

I am sure this guy is a good dev but I just don't see myself going for the pure AOSP experience without any of the extras, I mean why did I root for to begin with. I am looking for something new to play around with and this just won't work :(

Thank you for saying something that has been on my mind for a while. I never got the whole "pure" thing. Its not a soap or something. I like AOSP because it allows me to run best of breed stuff without being tied down. I still may go back to LTB someday because it is pretty much the king of "gadgety" roms, which to me is the whole point of having a cool phone. I want buttons to press and cool looking shit.

Ive been using this for the last week and im enjoying it, yes its exactly OMGB and as plain as a plain donut. Its 2.3.4 and thats what your getting, hopefully next update he goes with 2.3.5 but doubt it because r2 and xoom dev havent updated omgb to 2.3.5 yet. It is running smooth and very stable and i got an instant GPS lock without a work around which was very nice! i added gingerbread launcher from the market also so its exactly how i like it. Im sure you could take the theme chooser apk from cm7 or omgb so that u can run themes on it also.

I get where your coming from but then why would every other rom be updated to 2.3.5? Even the O.G. Droid has been updated by Peter Alfonso today from 2.3.4 to GPA17 (2.3.5) just so anal ppl like me (LOL) can say hey i have 2.3.5 on my phone the newest android system even though it adds no new functionality or changes to my phone.

I would say so. If you browse over the SDK (Android SDK | Android Developers) version 2.3.5 isn't even included. Normally when new features are added to the OS the SDK is also updated to include the new features as well so devs can start using them if they want to.

Edit: Putting it on the OG Droid is so owners can say they have the latest and greatest out of a phone that is almost 2 years old
