hhhhmmmm... OSs and OEMs are teaming up..

Where'd you hear the samsung rumour? Just curious.

I'd be shocked if Samsung dropped Android while it is making $$ for them. WebOS would be a huge gamble. I mean look at what everyone did with the $99 touchpads? they put CM7 on them heh.

I could see HTC and Samsung and others hedging their bets a bit by experimenting on a small scale (say one device) with a different OS.

HTC does this already with WP7, and I guess Samsung has Bada.

I'm sure the Android Manufacturers are concerned, but they will be making profits for a long while if they play their cards right. The thing that brings users to Android is Google integration. Gmail, Maps, etc. It's hard to imagine they would want to go back to a time when the iphone was kicking their butts all up and down the smartphone market.

Also think of how many years HP/Dell/Compaq/Gateway/Packard Bell/Acer/Asus etc made Windows boxes until that market finally contracted into a few majors.

Android still has a lot of room to grow, the boom is far from over :) (imho)

South Korean Government Urges Samsung And LG To Forsake Android: "We Cannot Go On Like This"

i am just... thinking out loud..
about what might be... one possible future

for sure, it's interesting to imagine :)

I thought this was funny though:
The South Korean government has urged its major electronics companies, Samsung and LG, to join a coalition of other Korean companies in developing their own mobile phone operating system. A South Korean deputy commerce minister said that "In the long term, we cannot go on like this by solely relying on Google."

so one lowly government official (too low to get his name actually published), is hoping for an isolationist paradise....

yeahhhhhhh...... :D

I still don't see it happening, Google bought moto mobility but I believe they will hold true with what they have said and no give special favors, they purchased it for patents. South Korea would be hurting itself if they got samsung to pull out of android. Android is the reason samsung is the 2nd largest OEM right now that is a lot of money going to South Korea, if they pull out to appease the government then sure Bada may get big in that area but overall for the market I would bet we wouldn't see a big shift globally in market share. Not to mention that would make Samsung fight those patent lawsuits without any help from Google and may cause more if Google decides to flex some muscle at Samsung for the betrayal. I have said it before but with Android phones I think the OS brand will mean more to users than the OEM brand.
