I cant take it anymore, I must upgrade soon. I have been putting it off and decided that I have to pick a phone and pull the trigger. So, The Bionic is slated for 9/8 if I am correct, and the Droid Prime is sometime in October.

Is the Prime enough of a jump over the Bionic to wait the extra month?
Moto vs Samsung?
Overlays?

Please suggest what I should be considering if I have made up my mind to pick one of those two

I'm going with the prime.... Unlocked nexus device! on VZW LTE. the bionic will have the encripted bootloader. and be on GB. The Prime will be full on Dual Core Ice Cream Sandwich. As much as I love Moto Hardware, Going to have to change. Oh, and P3Droid says it wont be out by October, but I still think it will be worth the wait.

Considering the fact that the Prime should beat most of the Galaxy S II specs (and imho those were pretty much leading the pack in many ways) with the only question being a possible 5 MP camera, I am looking forward to the Prime right now.

My Droid 1 is running strong with CM, OC, and memory fixes, but it gets to the point where I'd like to be able to blow everyone away with the hardware rather than proudly showing that my phone can hold its own in the current pack, aside from gaming apps, without having to constantly be aware of what app is doing what to RAM or battery. Also I am hoping the phone might be LTE for voice as well as data. I can have difficulties understanding someone when I don't see them talking (even though my hearing range is excellent), so a greater quality could help there (aside from hardware limitations).

I'm voting Prime - I'd jump carriers for it even - just would really, really like it if it could retain the ability to be GSM/CDMA so I could keep using it outside of Verzion on a lower priced carrier once contract goes away or such. (I know, I want to have my cake and eat it too...but a guy can dream :p)

I cannot wait for the Prime, whenever it leaks. I don't see VZW ever getting exclusive rights to a Prime monikered device, and It's too far away - my DROID's WiFi has gone on the fritz, dropping connections every 3 minutes or so, so that it is pretty unusable.

I also have multiple upgrades, so I can conceivably get both....

if you can wait, do so. If you can't, well, we already know which is dropping first.

I hear ya, JG. My OG is getting way too senile for its own good. LWPs keep dropping, random reboots, I have to reconnect wifi manually... but I am really hoping to string her out til the Prime comes out. Which hopefully will be sooner than later.

I would have written all this backwards to help satisfy your manga withdrawal, but there's only so much I can do with this forum :p

Well, I honestly do not believe that an October release is imminent for this phone - and I simply cannot wait til Nov. Business #1 is in full swing, Business #2 is ramping up, and classes started 2 weeks ago. I simply have no choice anymore.

if the WiFi hadn't started cutting out on me this month, I'd try to wait it out - but no mas.

As much as I want to wait for the prime, who knows if it will get delayed just as much as the Bionic has been? Then if I keep waiting for the next best technology, as soon as I am about to buy the prime a leak of the Nexus Super Prime will come out and then there goes the Prime out the door. lol We basicalyl fall into Moore's law and will just keep on waiting and waiting...so it seems like the Bionic for me.

I have been sooooooo patiently waiting...and overclocking...and overclocking some more...and now they are just confusing me. If Google would make Moto unlock the bootloader, I'd probably just take the plunge on the Bionic, but if the hardware for the Prime matches up...well...shoot. I'd like GSM functionality as well, 'cause only being able to call on my spotty wifi in foreign lands sorta sucks.

@Johngalt: I've found that even on 3g m.mangafox.com loads pretty quickly and baka-tsuki has an android app to let you read light novel translations on your phone (which download quickly as well.) I've had to make do, since my wifi has sucked from the get go.

I actually use Manga Watcher myself. I just like being able to batch download the files to my SDCard while I read ones that I have already Downloaded. Now, I have to DL over 3G, which means I have to manually turn off my WiFi at night / when I read and then turn it back on again for short, simple testing and whatnot when I need WiFi. It's just a PITA, and I was over-exaggerating.

Also, most likely the Prime will be a nicer, newer phone and will not only measure up to but surpass the Bionic.

Prime was heaven sent for me. Like everyone else, my OG Droid is limping along (impressive, but still limping). My contract's up in Dec so hopefully the Prime will be available then.

I'm eligible for upgrade as of 7/7, so I'm anxious now. I don't want to wait too long b/c I'll just keep waiting and waiting and waiting lol

i am wondering what does it mean to the branding of phone the Samsung "DROID" Prime and not the "NEXUS" Prime means to end user. I really hope it stays stock. I am not going to settle for anything but Vanilla android. I do not see myself scrolling 5 screens to get to my apps i want to keep an app drawer (touchwiz, and if you till me just use launcherpro i will tell you i know i can but I would like to avoid so i dont want to have more stuff running). I hate how every Manufacturer has to have their own UI.

The fact that Verizon wants it's branding on it, DROID, makes me wonder. Will not be stock? Also what does this mean to the nexus prime? How will it be different from the Nexus Prime? I think Google will not just stick with Verizon just for a nexus phone. And I know for a fact that Google would not just drop Nexus like that. Will the Nexus Prime be better than the Droid Prime?

I just hate how Verizon must also be a spoiled little bitch. Excuse my explicit language. I am just a bit upset about their choosing of phones. It makes sense to me on the move on the GSII. The phone came out way too late and if the prime is going to be better than this the no shit. Release date of the GSII for the rest of the world was like what march, dude its almost September. HUGE FAIL on the US Carriers right there they lost a lot of money.

But what I find really upsetting none of the Nexus phones ever came out on Verizon. I wouldnt mind it if it plays out like it did for OG Droid and the first nexus. But what I do not want is to be second in line for android updates. I want to have the same phone google uses to test updates and new apps on the NEXUS phone that is the phone that first gets all the updates. So if the droid prime is the nexus prime just with different names then 80 percent chance I will get that phone. But shit this needs to be cleared out. I cant make up my mind on phones. First it was going to be the GSII then i was like idunno should i wait then it was like fudge that it is taking way too long. This phone will be outdated once all the 720p screens come out. I am sticking with my OG Droid untill I can get a phone that will remain on top as long as an android phone can lol. And now I am hearing two names for a prime phone. UGHHH.

Verizon is under the mistaken impression that customers are loyal to the brand. I am not. I have been eligible for an upgrade since early July, but there isn't one Verizon phone worth buying and getting stuck with for two years. My contract on my Droid 1 is up in about 10 weeks. I am going to go with the best phone. I don't care one way or another whether it is Verizon or any of the others. I have been with Verizon dating back to when it was called AirTouch and would be happy to stay, but only if they have a phone that makes me wet my pants. Otherwise, ta ta.

I am so with you on that, early upgrade since july 6 and my contract is up on nov 6 of this year. my problem is that my gf wants to separate from her moms plan and get on to mine. So if she does that i have to stay on verizon. See i love their network but shit they have a horrible taste in choosing phones and ruining a good phone. Service is great fastest 4g in american from what i hear and i am grandfathered into the unlimited plan so i dont really want to leave but shit if this doesnt get any better i am going to be forced to leave.

Well, I've been camped out in the Prime forum and it's on fairly good authority* that Nexus Prime / Droid Prime / Nexus 3 (whatever they're gonna call it) IS coming, and it's coming to Verizon. Passed Bluetooth certification. Next stop wifi certification then the FCC. Should hit the street in October/November. Hang in there, folks... a killer device is on the way :)

*-"fairly good authority": Take that onboard for what it's worth, I'm cautiously optimistic about this phone. Verizon wouldn't turn down the SGS2 unless there was a beast of a phone in the works behind it.

But my question is why did they choose droid over nexus branding?

Two possible reasons: (a) "Nexus Prime" is the name of some Transformers robot or something like that, copyrighted to Hasbro. More royalties! (b) By avoiding the pure Nexus moniker, Verizon becomes free to load it up with bloatware - for which they are paid handsomely - instead of leaving it stock vanilla. That's what we've come up with so far...

Thanks for the link about the Droid Prime, I hadn't seen it mentioned on Phandroid, and its nice to see after every carrier except Verizon had their Galaxy S2 announcement.

I think I'll wait it out for the Prime since Samsung seems to be the most cooperative with having an unlocked boot loader and even cooperating with the CM people. I like the stock android, and since Motorola doesn't seem interested in that anymore I'll go with specs over manufacturer so its going to be Samsung this time around.

I've heard people complain about the feel of their phones but I consider the user experience more important than how it feels to hold it. And it seems like this is as close as owning a "Nexus Prime" as its going to get on Verizon.

My Droid 1 is limping and needs a new battery asap. The Bionic has been in my friggin dreams since January.

Then the Prime rises to the top of the charts. But who knows when it will ship.

Prime Pros: Screen size, Samsung, 1.5 ghz, Super amoled

Bionic Pros: Next week, Moto Accessories (I love my charging/media stand), Next Week, Gorilla glass, Next Week, Google Moto Googarola should be good for Moto phones and of course the Bionic can be in my hands Next Week!

The deciding factor for my getting a Bionic. If I wait for the Prime, then something else even more powerful will pop up to confuse me. I could keep waiting for the next great phone forever.

Next Week I will have a Bionic.

Im kinda feeling the same way you are, but I decided Im gonna wait for some reviews to come out first and see what the general consensus is on it.

Just as the Bionic was delayed several times, there is no telling us if the Prime will do the same thing. On top of that, I completely agree that if you wait for the Prime a rumor will surface about a phone that is even better, and it is just a never ended cycle. Sometimes you just gotta pull the trigger and go for it.

I also dont understand why VZW and Moto would put so much marketing into a phone, only to have it superceded a month later...doesnt make sense to me.

I'm getting the Bionic for multiple reasons - I have multiple upgrades, I need a new phone sooner rather than later, and the fact hat the Bionic went back under the knife, so to speak, and took a lot of development time, plus is using Moto's in-house developed LTE radio, makes me want the device in a very weird way.

I'm getting the Bionic regardless. The extra accessories I get at CostCo will pay for the phone itself if it is a dud and I sell it. And I'll be reviewing it as well.
