Hello there,

This is my first time having a smartphone (Mopho), and i'm not really sure if the issue that i'm having is the phone or the company (sprint).

Basically i text to ppl and all of the sudden on the next day or hours i get bunch of late txt msgs at once...
The status of my phone is... got widgetsoid to deactivate any networks and data information ( btw, fyi: gosh still disconnecting all the networks and my battery is draining like crazy, very dissapointed about battery life of this phone ) and currently using Go launcher as my theme icons, it just looks different from stock.

I don't know if i'm disconnecting some networks that prevents from receiving msg... and i would greatly appreciate your help.

Bolded sounds like user error as far as your text messages are concerned.

As for battery drain, that sounds like user error as well. How often do you have data sync'ing? Do you keep GPS on? Are you using a live wallpaper?

Aside from Go Launcher and Widgetsoid (both shouldn't be a cause of battery drain), what other apps have you downloaded?

And if you're a first time smartphone owner, what is your definition of battery drain?

What do u mean by user error?
Basically I have all my network off other than 3G or 4G for forum or whenever I use internet... Sometimes I put airplane mode on.. When I dont use phone...
For example.. I get out at 9 am with full battery.. And txt msg (20 to 30) and around 2pm I get to have 89percent bat.. Basically If I keep txting or calling with little internet my battery doesnt last until 6 or 5 and dies... I dont use any fancy wallpaper just stock non moving one.. Using the battery circle app.. And by just writti.g this msg on this post took me like 12 min and 4% of the battery went down... :/

I mean, if you deactivate your sync...as well as put the phone in airplane mode, you're not going to get text messages.

So, you're saying that from 9am-2pm you lose 11 percent (that makes sense) and then at that point, you keep the phone on, text, call...for 3-4 hours straight and you're wondering why the phone is dying? That would be considered extremely heavy usage for a Smartphone! That's not bad drain, that's pretty darn good if you have the phone on, screen on (doing phone calls, texting, etc.) straight for 3-4 hours. I mean, i can't even think of any electronic media players (ipods, tablets, etc.) that you can use for 3-4 hours straight and not have the battery drain that much.

My MoPho lasts from 5:00 am until I put it on the charger around 10 pm, with 2-3 hours of "screen on" time, as shown in the battery usage application. It's typically at 25% or so by then. If I forget to put it on the charger, it still has battery in the morning, but has to go right to charge.

How is your signal strength? If you're getting a weak signal, your battery will die in just a couple of hours.

I use WiFi once I get home, 4G at work. (3G today, poor 4G signal for whatever reason). GPS on always.

I'm not running a different launcher, or widgetoid (don't even know what widgetoid is). I run the brightness at the auto setting.

The display seems to be the biggest drain as long as you're getting a good signal. What is your "screen on" time in the battery usage monitor? 4 hours display time would probably kill about any smartphone. How much "voice call" time is in your battery monitor?

Personally, I wish they'd make these things thicker and double the battery size. I learned with my Touch Pro to have chargers and cables everywhere I might be.

Text messages are likely the carrier. Text messages get an extremely low priority in the spectrum.

Ohhh I see makes sense.. :) basically gotta charge in btween while I drive.. Hope that doesnt harm the bettery.. Thank you for the input..

For future reference, Airplane mode is made so that it turns off all the radios in the phone, so it does not disrupt the any of the signals on the plane, while still being able to use the phone on a plane as a media device player (e.g. play music, videos from files stored on the phone) once it's deemed okay to use the device in that manner. That means, no phone calls, texts, emails, internet connection, gps tracking, etc.

For the data sync, I'd recommend reading the user manual for guidance on what you'll need to keep on and what you can turn off, as well as which accounts you can have sync'd for specifications to your needs.

The pdf file for the user manual can be found in this thread, which is stickied at the top of the Photon thread:

Yup. I've officially been an Android addict since day 1 with my EVO last year. It got to the point that I was asked to be a Guide, which is easy because I'm a moderator on another forum as well. Glad we can help you enjoy your Android experience even more.

Regarding Ringtones:
Easy to change. To change the notification for emails, open the email app, then the following Capacitive Menu Button>Settings>Notifications>Select Ringtone.

It's that simple. You can do the same for text messages as well. And if you have multiple email addresses, I actually can't remember if you can have one for each individual account, but it would be a similar pattern to change those.

So basically u don't need any kind of app to set up external (my own) ringtones right?

Nope. To actually get your own ringtones on your phone (rather than just the stock ones), here's a "step-by-step" that I made for my friend recently:

Pretty Easy. I'd recommend moving ringtones onto the phone using connection through a computer, but you can do it on the phone as well. Nontheless, I just created a "how to" thread on setting up using custom ringtones for the MoPho and any other Android device you get in the future:

Not sure if this might interest you. Although you don't need any kind of app to set up your own external ringtones, there are a few apps that let you set up unique types of ring tones.

Take a look at the app, 'Pops'

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pops.app&feature=order_history

The app allows you to not only modify ring tones for different notifications, but also add animations and videos too.

Anyways, I've only just begun to start playing with it and it looks interesting....

Just a thought....

if your a 1st time user, I would have left "most" stuff stock for a while....that way you can track what is screwing things up...

if you just throw a bunch of stuff on there, it can make for a headache.....

and yes, aside from a BB smart phones SUCK the life out of a battery....but this photon has been the best i have used so far....

all my "sync" is left at stock.....every 30 mins it seems???

also i think in the music player you can go into menu and select that song as a ring tone......at least in power amp:):):):)

though i am going to go in a swap ring tones for text, email etc...thanks for that

Is there a way to change the text notification to something other than the preloaded alerts that come with the phone? I can change the ringtone just fine but can't seem to customize the text notification.

In order to use alerts that aren't already on the phone, you'll need to either create your own alerts and/or download soundboard apps.

I wrote a step-by-step on how to set up a phone for now and future ringtone/alert use, so search through some of my posts and I'm sure you'll find it (I just can't remember what thread I put it in, off the top of my head).
