litening rom v6.1 killing my battery

hi guys. i recently decided to root my phone using this method

[ROM] Lite'ning Rom v6.1 XXKH3 - Fast as Lightning - xda-developers


i am a uk user on virgin 24month contract and my version before the root was XXKE7 and say i was watching a film or making a phone call for 40 mins the battery would eat about 5 - 10%

ANY WAY i have now rooted the phone a few days ago and immediately bought TITANIUM pro key FULL VERSION and have started freezing some of the apps that i dont use like social hubs and some other ones.

but i would say my battery usage has gotten about 30-40% worse since i installed litening rom v6.1. even though ive frozen most of the apps

for example. i went to bed last night with my phone fully charged at 2am i watched one of my downloaded films for about 45mins and the battery went down to 73% fell asleep just before 3am and when i woke up at 12.30pm my battery was down to 65% i sent 3 txts off and spoke on the phone for 15 mins and my batt is down to 53% which doesnt seem right to me


just wondering if it would be better to install a different rom?


any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. and i am very new at this so if you could explain in the simplest way that would be great

You need to figure out what is draining your battery. 90% of the time its and app(s) or widget(s) that will be causing the drain and not the rom itself. Check your battery status (menu>settings>about phone>battery usage). Also click the graph in the stats and it will show awake periods against screen on periods. If you phone is awake for long periods of time will the screen is off this can cause battey drain to and you would need to figure out what is causing it.

That seems fairly reasonable to me as you've done a few voice calls.

Mine shows as follows:

display 38%
android os 21%
android system 11%
maps 7%
cell standby 5%
market 4%
internet 4%
phone idle 3%
tts service 3%
voice calls 2%
media server 2%

My android os seems to be taking a much greater whack compared to yours.

im not sure then whats happening.

i have definitely noticed that the battery is draining a lot more than what it was before i rooted it. and ive been using it exactly the same way as always.


im thinking of resetting my phone back to its original settings as its no use to me if the battery drains this badly all the time.

if i go into settings - privacy - factory data reset, will that do it

my pics and vids are saved in my external sd card so i can just take the sd card out before i reset

so all i have to do is save my numbers or write them down and re-put them back on the phone i only have a few anyway

not sure about my apps i bought from android market mainly titanium as i dont want to pay for it again if i decide to root again

have you tried battery calibration app?

apparently you need to recalibrate your battery after installing a new rom.

get the app from the market, the instructions are clear when you load it up how to calibrate

if you decide to go back to a previous rom, if you do a titanium back up I believe all this info can be restored anyway by reloading titanium back on your phone, so should be no need to write down and reenter.

any app bought through the market place will still be available to upload back to your phone without further cost if you do a factory reset or somehow loose apps.

oh, and the first time you run the app, your 1st cycle will be rubbish again. it's only when you recharge to 100% that you see the full benefit.

right thanks for help guys. ive recalibrated it so im gonna let it run all the way down im gona play videos on it to run the battery down quickly and then recharge it to 100% again. and then il see what happens

Regarding apps, there are actually some apps that can autorun when you just boot your phone, connecting into internet, etc etc. So I will suggest you to also download Gemini App Manager to disable autorun of some apps that you do not use.

Regarding you ROM, what kernel do you use? Changing kernel can help as well. I personally use Ninphetamine 2.1.3. If you decide to change kernel, do not forget to calibrate your battery again when 100%, drain you battery fully, and then charge it back to 100%.

ok guys ive recalibrated - drained the battery right down to ZERO till it turned itself off, i have recharged it fully to 100%. and it does seem better than before BUT i still wouldnt say the battery is lasting longer than before i rooted it, especially considering this updated rom is meant to be much better for the battery than the original and i have also frozen quite a few apps

is it worth getting a different kernel or changing to a new rom as really i want one that will give me the best battery life?

and if so which one?

and whats the most easiest way (instructions) on how to do it please. as i am having a real headache on trying to understand how to do things with this phone with regards to rooting and kernels and flashing. unrooting etc

How long is a piece of string?

There's a lot of praise for KH3 in terms of battery life, but I've just flipped back to a KG6 ROM because I was seeing poorer performance. All that means though is that the ROM I was using (MCR GR5, custom-baked) with the kernel (Ninphetamine 2.1.3 undervolted) didn't get along with something else. MCR GR1 + Ninphetamine 2.0.5 works superbly; some time over the weekend I'll drop 2.1.3 in and see if it affects things.

I suggest that you read the threads here regarding specific ROMs along with their counterparts at XDA, then try a few out to see what floats your boat. Flashing ROMs is easily accomplished from CWM recovery now you're rooted. Kernels can be flashed the same way, via Odin or from within the CWM app.

was looking at litening rom for a while - some people on xda forum reported poor battery on ninphet kernel which improved on switching to speedmod kernel.

personally on KG5 and ninpeht 2.1.3 get over 2 days light use, 43% today after 12 hrs moderately heavy use.

i would just experiment and tweak one thing at a time and see whats best for you.

thanks for help guys i really do appreciate youre help but

ive decided im going to put my phone back to its original settings as ive just made a phone call for 11m.27s and it has gone from 99% down to 93% which is definetly not right and then the screen just froze on me which it has never done before and its starting to annoy me now and all these different roms and kernels are really confusing me.

so id like to reset it back to how it was and then i might try again with a different rom some other time. when i feel a bit more confident


can someone tell me how to put my phone back to how it was plz in the most easiest way

can i just go into settings - privacy - factory data reset for the easy way?

or do i need to unroot it via odin again if so can you plz advice me

and do i need to unfreeze all the apps ive frozen via titanium



as i dont really have any think on my phone itself worth keeping apart from titanium pro key and a few phone numbers which ive got written down anyway and will only take a few minutes to put back on

1. if you did a "nandroid backup" via cwm before flashing your rom, you can restore from cwm and get back to where you started. OR

2. try just flashing the official carrier firmware via odin (available on xda) on top of your exisitng rom - you may find you get back to where you where with no data loss, you may not, at worst you may get into boot loop

3. do a full wipe - factory reset, cache wipe, dalvik wipe. then flash the official carrier firmware. this way all data would be lost (unless you rooted again and reinstalled titanium and restored data from there)

sydney i appreciate you trying to advice me but i really genuinely dont have a clue what you mean. im trying my best to understand but its totally going over my head (boot loops, dalvik wype cache wype)

i followed it step by step on post 1 as it was simple to understand




i have not done any back ups before i put on the litening rom or after it was completed

and then immediately downloaded titanium pro and froze some of the apps.
and re-calibrate the battery. and thats it.


i do not care if i lose any apps i have downloaded or phone numbers i have stored, all i want is just to put the phone back to how it was in the most easiest way possible

I was running litening rom 6.1 and also experienced a bad battery drain. Tried revaluatiorecalibration etc without luck. So I reinstalled the stock rom and on top the latest speedmod kernel. Now the battery life is again much better.

Get the stock rom from here and install it with odin.
(can't make a link in first post. See next one)

If you want to root it afterwards just follow the instructions on the thread. The cf-kernel worked well for me, and now I'm trying out the speedmod kernel (works well too)

You can pick the same stock rom version you already had or try the newer KI3/4.

Im using Litening rom 6.1 and i`m suprised u have such battery drain. my battery life is great! seriously cant complain about it... but i froze/removed all bloatware and apps i dont need or use. as i said few times before im getting over 24h with medium to heavy use with no problem...
