Help Problem with Gingerbread

All my friends are black so i'm confused as to why mine is white. It is supposed to be dark in Gingerbread in order to help AMOLED screens power save a bit. Also of course it fits in with the dark Gingerbread theme.

Does anybody know about this?

And yes I mean the menu screen that comes up at the bottom.

As far as I'm aware, although our phones are now running Gingerbread, they are still running samsungs GalaxyS TouchWiz launcher. The launcher is the app that controls your homescreens, wallpapers, menus etc... This means that your phone will still have the white menus etc.

If you really want the gingerbread launcher you can get it here:

https://market.android.com/details?id=com.modaco.android.launchergb&feature=search_result

Once installed, hit the "home screen" button and choose the new launcher (Not TWLauncher, thats the touchwiz one) and your away! Almost 100% default gingerbread!

My Home Button stopped working some weeks ago...I think after I updated to 2.3.3 I'm under the impression that there's more Galaxy S i9000 users that suffer from this problem. Do you think that this could be TWLauncher or otherwise 2.3.3 related? My first guess was a hardware failure since I did notice a small crack in my screen in the lower left corner...however, the Menu touch button still works fine (in fact the whole damn phone works super fine)...which is why I think the failure is not related to the hardware, unless it is a factory defect which, due to the crack, they won't fix under warranty

That's weird... sounds like a software problem to me. I reckon a factory reset would solve your issue, but doing it is a bit of a pain lol.

I live in the UK and have an unbranded SGS... about 2 weeks ago now I was offered the 2.3.4 update by Kies and have been using it ever since... Little bit faster, menus are proper gingerbread black and battery life is now EPIC (It used to show 75 - 80% after my 10 hour day in work with minor use on breaks, dinner etc... now its between 85 - 90%... so its essentially lasting 25 - 50% longer, when idle at least) .

If you can, update to 2.3.4 and THEN factory reset... might as well kill 2 birds with one stone, and I always recommend a FR after a firmware upgrade anyways.

I'm in Belgium and even though Kies is a Dutch word, we always seem to be the last to get such updates :)

My colleagues have the SGSII and their battery life sucks :) I much prefer my battery, even with 2.3.3 I'll check again this week-end for a 2.3.4 update with Kies... 'Over the Air' (feature since 2.3.3) doesn't report any updates however.

Damn...I'll have to order a new screen and replace the old one, but I'm still not sure on whether I should also order a new Home button... Oh well, I guess I'll have to wait for 2.3.4 before ordering the goodies.

Thanks for the input! Aren't these the best phones?! :)

Got my samsung galaxy S and loved it. Now I am on the verge of stamping on it.

Upgraded to Gingerbread BVJV7 2.3.3 and since then nothing but problems.

Problem 1 - drains battery like you wouldn't believe, having to charge phone twice a day with nothing running, use any software and boom its up to 4 times a day

Problem 2 - switches itself off when it shouldn't and still has power but then won't switch back on until plugged into power and battery has been removed and reinserted

Problem 3 - can't get the 3g button to work anymore without having to mess about in settings and changing settings back and forth

Spoke to guys at orange and they told me to ring Samsung as they didn't know what to do despite all the settings being right.

Arrrgghhhhh. How do I get it back to the previous version before this upgrade without losing everything on my phone.
