New to the thunderbolt. Any advice?

I bought 2 thunderbolts to replace my iPhone 4 and my wife's fascinate. Any one have any tips for the phone to better the experience? I have already rooted them but haven't touched any roms yet.

Welcome to Android Forums! I'm surprised you rooted both without coming here first! I replaced my iPhone4 with a Tbolt and have never been happier. There's a lot to know about these phones and for me it came easier than most people. If you want to know something specific or look at quick tips follow the guide your phones came with or google tips for HTC Thunderbolt. I have rooted my friends phones before so I had all the information for that but switching roms is another story. Lol. I like the iPhone but I just needed a change and the thunderbolt seems like a great fun with a lot of potential.

QUESTION: I have the unlimited data for 3G, should it stay the same with 4G when I go into Verizon and get the thunderbolts sim cards and activate them

You should've waited, as good as the thunderbolt is, newer devices are coming by the end of the year that will be better, I would go back and return the thunderbolt and wait till the end of the year, just my opinion though

They should put a dumpster inside the phone store so you can throw away what you just bought. It's already obsolete by the time you get to the front door, so no need to waste time carrying it all the way to your car.

Kidding aside, I get what you're saying Matt, but, respectfully differing, I'm a big fan of buying what you need when you need it. My iPhone had been slowly killing me for months, and I NEEDED a Thunderbolt NOW..well, Monday. I can't even imagine waiting five more weeks than I did, not even five more days, much less five more months.

Patience may be a virtue, but virtues ain't always all that virtuous if you know what I'm saying. Here I am three days later, loving life again with my shiny new Thunderbolt.

Off to keep digging for tips myself. I've been reading quite a bit here the past three days, so I figure I've only got 125,000 posts or so to go.

Seems like the thunderbolt is a love it or hate it relationship. Every phone in my opinion is pretty much obsolete 30 days after it comes out. I will give the phone a chance than decide if am one who loves or hates the bolt.

Coming off an iPhone and comparing battery life...assuming you'll be using 4G...don't be too surprised if you start leaning toward th dark side.

I would suggest getting hooked up with [Rom] [GB/NEW BASE] SHIFTS3NS3 V1.3X (HTC KERNEL MOD) (8/29/2011) - xda-developers

It is crazy fast, has great battery life (I was off charger for 8 hours yesterday afternoon/evening and still had 47% left on the stock battery), and has some nice UI tweaks. The ROM is still in active development, so new updates are always just around the corner.

Some other peeps above suggested returning your phone-- well the bionic is due out next Thursday or so if I heard correctly. Honestly, I haven't really looked at the new phones since that just causes tech envy for me

as for trying ROM's it is actually really easy.
since you are rooted the first thing i would do is download titanium backup, and do a batch backup of your user apps and their data (makes switching ROM's so much easier)
DO NOT BACKUP OR RESTORE SYSTEM APPS EVER!!!

CyanogenMod is the most popular ROM out there. it is FAST, customizable, and has no sense, but there are quirks with it, just like any other AOSP based ROM.
Das Bamf is the most popular sense based ROM with some really nice tweaks.

the second thing i would do, is grab the latest OTA radio and flash it through hboot. most, if not all Gingerbread ROMs can use this radio. and i have had the best results using it.

and to answer your question about the unlimited data, it will carry over no problem to 4G.

But the root forum is more active than this area and you can get responses quicker. CM just released a new version a few days ago so that might be worth trying out it is an AOSP rom

Do you know if you want to stick with sense or go AOSP?

I suggest going on youtube & watching some tips & tricks videos on the TBolt. That's has been very useful for me.

red66charger - When switching I knew battery life would be a con but I am usually in an area where I can charge my phone. Also people on here are pretty fond on the extended battery. (Idk if im ready to add the extra bulk though)


superstretch - While doing some research that rom has popped up several times, as well as the BAMF roms. I probably will change roms once I get used to android.


Turdbogls - Thanks for answering my question. I backed up my phone with titanium backup and I am sure I will have a couple questions when I start switching roms.

Yeahha - I am probably gonna stick with sense for right now until I get comfortable with it.

Thats - I don't see what people are complaining about. The phone itself is a nice quality build and the hardware is up to date with its competitors(minus the bionic coming out). But I made my decision based on I wanted the 4G option, otherwise i would've went with the Incredible 2. So far I am happy with the switch.
