I was in Handcent, trying to hit the back button, and out of the blue, I somehow made this menu pop up along the bottom of the screen that showed icons for and gave quicklinks to gmail, phone, stock messaging app, facebook, etc. It looked pretty slick. I have no idea how I made that pop up. If someone could explain I would greatly appreciate it!:)

You long pressed the home key.

It brings up the 6 most recent apps...kind of like the old alt-tab in windows.

Interesting. That's a cool feature. Just tried it out.

That's actually NOT what I experienced though. What you explained brings up a rectangle with the 6 most recent apps in the middle of the screen. What I saw was a short, one icon high, bar along the bottom of the screen that only showed the 5 main stock apps. *almost* the same, but not quite. For example, I haven't opened the stock messaging app in a week, but it still appeared on this little quick menu.

Anyone able to duplicate this?

you pressed on someone's profile picture. you can also do this in gtalk. have fun

Winner. Ah that's genius. Thanks so much. I wasn't necessarily on the bottom per se, I just accidentally hit the bottom picture next to the back button. And it is customizable, sort of. If you click on the custom messaging app icon, it'll give you the option to change it to Handcent. From that point forward, touching their icon pic brings up the menu with Handcent in the menu. Great stuff.
