Root First Flash need help

First let be say this is my very first flash ever. I read several different forums about flashing the VGTab and felt that Viewsonic GTab for dummies was best place for me to start. I see that the part of the same instructions are posted here as well. I downloaded and installed CWN 3.0.2.8 . I did the everything as instructed to wipe and backup data, I also read that it was good to wipe the davik cache also. I chose to install VEGAn GE 7.0.0 RC1 Harmony signed clemsyn. I downloaded the zip file to the download folder on the internal sd card. I installed from the sd card zip. Now I am stuck at reboot system now on CWM recovery page. I select reboot system now and the screen with the 3 birds comes up with "Booting recovery kernal image" and then returns me to the CWM page all over again. I think it may be bricked because I can not recover stock. I was able to do that after my first flash did not work.Help

If you can't get into clockwork then I would NVflash. I used the files from the dummies site just the other day to do my first NVflash. I chose the NVflash with CWM.
After installing a ROM I've found that selecting factory reset gives me the best results.
I got the VEGAn build from this page:http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...1123836&page=7, post #1 under Clemsyn 1.5ghz Kernel (bootloader 1.2) links:VEGAn-GE-7.0.0-RC1-Harmony (GB2.3.3, stable build):
http://www.mediafire.com/?upb49eq4d7vpzva. So I believe I chose everything correctly. So as of now I am the page with the tophat on top of a circle with an arrow in it, which I assume is the main page for CWM. I installed CWM Recovery v3.0.2.8 (GTAB 1.2 and NI Adam rev5) which is suppose to have NVflase with it. How do I access NVflash? I forgot to add that when I tried recovery and when I tried to install the VEGAn it always came back completed, finished.
Update I believe what is happening is found on your page here:http://www.slatedroid.com/topic/1775...very-g-tablet/. PART2: Clockworkmod v3.0.2.8 (GTablet 1.2 dev branch, and NI Adam compatible), I have adb on my pc but is there a dummies page on how to use it?
I found the adb for dummies but I just remembered I did not have "android debug" checked in settings! :...(
Please tell me I have not completely bricked my 1 day old Gtab.

NVflash is your safety net. so it's practically impossible to brick the tab. If you have any problems with an install, running NVflash will take you back to a good starting position.

I have never had to use ADB with this tab.

Vegan has actually been updated. This is the latest version [ROM][BL1.1] [BL1.2]VEGAn-TAB GingerEdition v7.1.0 [UPDATED - 8/27/11] - xda-developers and I can say that it is a good ROM. You should try this one instead. I'm running Flashback Honeycomb right now but HULU doesnt work so I think I will be going back to Vegan.

If you are in Clockwork right now(sounds like you are if you see the tophat) and want to try the latest Vegan you can connect your tab to your computer with the usb cable, choose "mount and storage", then "mount USB storage." Download the latest Vegan from the link above and save it to the root of your SD card. then unmount the USB storage. Move one step back in CWM and choose "install zip from sdcard." Once the install is complete, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache and advance/wipe dalvik. Once that is done reboot and it should load.

If that doesn't work then it sounds like you will need to NVflash and then do all the steps I mentioned. I personally have only used the NVflash once and I chose to do so just because I wanted to see how it works.

Good luck!

Followed your instructions to the"T", still boots to recovery mode. I guess I will have to NVflash. The cwm I have is suppose to have nvflash with it but I do not know how to access it and I am afraid to do any thing with out some directions. If you could assist me or point me to someplace that gives me this info. I would appreciate it. Right now I am going to catch a few Z's I'v only had a couple of hours sleep worrying about the possibility of having bricked my 1 day old GTab. Thanks

I feel your pain. I spent most of my night trying to get my DroidX updated! Didn't get much sleep.

This is the NVflash file that I used: gtab.nvflash.1.2.branch.20110508 with cwmv3028.zip this is the one for 1.2 with CWM already installed.

and then I followed the instructions on the dummies site. NVFlash - Viewsonic GTablet For Dummies The first part sets your computer up to install NVflash. The second part is when you actually execute it. The instructions have been edited slightly so if it says " don't click here" then skip that step.

When you run NVflash there isn't much to look at. Your tab will be black but should have a small amount of writing at the top updating the status of the flash. Most of the activity will be seen on your computer.

I'm stuck, the only way my pc sees the GTab is when on the Gtab I go to mounts and storage/mount usb/-unmount storage (then I can see different folders in the GTab) or at least that is the only way I have tried. When I stay on the page where the GTab first boots to my pc does not see anything it shows as an empty drive and ask for me to insert a disk.
When on the unmount page I tried to nvflash-gtablet-bat, the command prompt window flashes on quickly on the pc then disappears and the GTab does nothing.

I am back to stock FW 1.2-4349 FRF Build 91. What CFW would you recommend for? I know I am not technically savvy enough to attempt any HoneyComb roms. I need Market, Flash, ability to stream both local and internet media. If possible i would like to be able to overclock that adjusts automatically depending on whats happening and have battery saver, and come in a zip file so I do not have to put it on a external sd card.
Is this possible. I am afraid to make my own choices at this time because of what I just experienced.
Should I go in to CWM and delete those backups?

I would make a backup of what you have right now before doing anything else. As far as ROMs go, I like the cyanogenmod7 ROMs, and vegantab ginger. Just make sure you follow the instructions carefully for the specific ROM.

hi all, just purchased my gtab and software sucks....want to flash and also new at it. so my question is , when i look at the vegan website it mentions choosing the right rom,how do you know whichis the right one? I have a great deal of experience with computers:thinking:

menu>settings>About Tablet>Tap UI Version>Firmware starts with 1.1 = you're on 1.1 branch. Firmware starts with 1.2 = you're on 1.2 branch

I'm a noobie my self. I found this site( Not Found - Webs.com be the best for learning the basics, which you will definitely need. I would have been lost without it. It is written by someone named "goodintentions" and he essentially takes you by the hand and leads you through every step. You will then have the knowledge to switch out Roms as you like.
