Hello to all AF Members,

I am just about to buy the Tab 10.1 and started researching what accessories I would need to use it to its fullest potential. I am also wondering which version I should be getting.

Here are a few questions I would like to raise:

1. Do you think 16GB memory is enough for everyday use? I would be watching some movies for sure and instaling some apps, but aps should not be more than 100. Then, I will put my backups ab and media onto it. After that, Iwill have no more than 12GB left. Do you think that is enough? Should I be thinking about more memory?

2. 3G or not 3G? I have an Android phone so I could tether, but that is always a bit of a hassle, so I think having it would be beter - what is your opinion?

3. What accessories apart from the ones listed below could I use to make the most of the tablet:

- HDTV out
- USB out
- Case
- Extra charger - can I use any USB charger or do I have to use original Samsung one?

Hi, I have 16g wifi version and find it plenty. I watch films regularly on it. Plenty of app space. Lots of books. I'm happy to delete films as and when I have watched them.I have about 10 on it at any one time. Can only watch one st a time.lol. I don't really use it for music so I suppose quite a bit of space saved there.

Tethering no issue at all.just have a quick widget control to turn on and of and then tablet will just pick up wireless connection.

Case is a must for me.

I have the keyboard which I use regularly when doing work.Mt lap to hasn't been switched on since I got the tab a month ago.

I plan to get the USB connector but don't see it as essential. I find using kies easy enough.

Charger has to be Samsung. Not standard USB.

If you are with Verizon Wireless, you can only get the Galaxy Tab 10.1 with 4G. There is no 3G version.

I don't like tethering because it drains the battery of your smart phone. And also carriers are cracking down on people that tether and raise your monthly fee automatically. That's why I bought the 4G version instead.

The price between 16 and 32GB is not that much different. So I went for 32 GB because you never know. :)

In addition, I suggest to get the white one. It is so much prettier than the metalic. I also suggest you to buy the Samsung book case which is much better than the Belkin case.

I don't use the Tab to watch TV because, in my humble opinion, is really pointless. But it is just me. :) So I can't answer that question on video out cable. As of USB, I am using the one that comes with the charger to connect to my laptop and it works perfectly fine.

Hope this helps. You will love your Tab. :)

Thanks for the advice guys.

I did think about the keyboard. I saw it available online and it seems pretty nice, but I think I will try to see how it works without one first and if I find myself needing a keyboard then I will buy it.

As for memory - you are right. I will probably have a few movies on al the time and just put new ones on every now and then.

I will get a 3G one as I live in Europe and we do not have any use for 4G yet, unless by 4G you mean HSPA+, which is not real 4G, but rather 3.5G.

I have to start searching for online shops that have good prices and a 32GB 3G version if possible.

By the way, does anyone have the EC1B1L case for it? I am wondering if it is better to buy that or a 10" neopren sleeve.

Szadzik, as of this moment, I have no need for any physical keyboard. I typed my messages to this forum using the Tab and it works fine.

But if you decide to get a keyboard, the white one looks gorgeous. :)

Good luck on your shopping.

Thanks. Will buy on Friday, no32GB 3G version available anywhere as far as I can see ATM though. 16GB will have to suffice.

Do you stream movies/music? If you do streaming for media, then yeah, I'd say 16gb is plenty. By the sounds of it, you'd prefer the ease in connect ability of the 3G, so that's probably what you should do. I would def get a case on it if you're gonna carry it or travel with it... HDTV out and an extra charger would be good based on the sounds of it. The GT10.1 uses Samsungs 30 pin connector so its not like any phone charger will work.

I personally just have the wifi model, but that's because everywhere I go has wifi and its all I need.

I do not do any streaming at all. I am getting the book case fo everyday use, but am also wondering whether I should get an additional neoprene sleeve/ e1b1l case for when I throw it in the backpack for travelling.

You say a phone charger - you mean a MicroUSB connector - I know that will not work. What I meant, was whether a charger that has a USB socket where you plug in the SGT charge cable on the USB side and plug it into the tablet on the 30 pin side.

Would that work?

Hmmm, I don't know. It seems like it might, but I have never personally tried it. I have a sleeve that I put mine in for carrying and it works out pretty well, so you should be fine there.

Would you maybe have a phone/ mp3 player charger that has a USB socket and you could try that with the charge cable for SGT?

Didnt work with my 5V htc usb -> power adapter

Thanks for confirming that. I have a trukcload of these USB chargers and will have to try each of them as it will probably depend on amperage and not voltage of it. I have a Logitech one (two actually, both came with MX Performance Mouse) that seems to have pretty high amperage as it charges my phone faster than anything else, so I will have to try that first.

Yeah I didnt see an amperage on the sticker for my htc adapter else I would have added that bit :)

Edit: I double checked the HTC was 1A (1000mA)

I also tried an old Motorola USB->charger with 5.1V 850mA

And actually I just looked at the Samsung that came with my 10.1 and it says 5V, 2A (2000mA, so much more powerful flowing there indeed)

Good info. Even if I need to buy a new one I willlook out for something with a lot of power, the Samsung one ssems pretty expensive.I will have to decide first whether I need an additional one, though.
