Who upgraded from the Evo 4G to the Evo 3D?

I went from the EVO to the EVO 3D & I had the EVO since May with 2 master resets, which made me lose everything except for my pictures and contacts saved to Google. I was still not happy, b/c Sprint didn't know what happened to my phone & I never rooted it. I have had the EVO 3D for 2 days now & I love it, so much different & so many more options...but it has only been 2 days. lol I hope it lasts longer than 4 months of an EVO.

I absolutely loved my EVO 4G except for the fact that I had to stay tethered to a charger due to battery life. I put up with that because it was such an awesome device otherwise. I switched to the EVO 3D and noticed that out of the box the battery life is a lot better. I am very happy with the EVO 3D and haven't had any problems with call quality or data connectivity, and I use the full hdmi mirroring a lot. I also take lots of pics and home video and the quality is quite good. I consider it an excellent upgrade and have not even thought about changing to something else.

I moved to the 3D from the 4G as well. I found the increased memory (for installing apps), and the higher resolution screen and the good battery life to be awesome!

(I say good battery life because I found a significant improvement in battery life after the EVO 4G got the GB update - the 3D gave me that same battery life from day 1)

I turned on the 4G once after using the 3D for a couple of weeks - and was surprised at the difference in performance (launching apps) and the screen resolution between these two devices. (I honestly didn't expect that type of performance difference since the EVO 4G has a pretty good processor too)

So, in summary, I'm happy with my move from 4G to 3D.

Thanks for the feedback, guys! Right now, Sprint is offering the Evo 3D for $75 if you trade in your Evo. I am thinking about doing it because I'm on my second Evo and I've recently started having issues with this one.

I'm glad someone mentioned the battery life. I use my phone for work and it eats up a lot of battery. I can't go for more than 2-3 hours before needing to charge it again. I like that the 3D has a faster processor and a better battery.

Is it much different than the Evo 4G?

Do you have to sign up for another 2 years to get the upgrade? I wouldn't mind switching to the 3D but don't want to reset my contract period.

Yep! Which isn't a biggie to me because I'm actually happy with my service, plus it's the most affordable plan that gives me unlimited data, calls and texts compared to the other carriers.

Basically, they are offering to buy back your Evo for $125. It should be that amount regardless of the phone you choose to replace it.

Evo 4G is one of those rare Androids that was a huge leap from other phones being offered at the time. While the Evo 3D didn't have the same wow factor as the 4G, it's a damn impressive phone.

Screen is beautiful. If you get a chance, do a side-by-side comparison with your existing Evo and an E3D in the store. Huge difference.

Battery life is vastly improved compared to the Evo 4G. Though if you know what you're doing, it was possible to tame the 4G to go easy on the battery. I didn't have to do much at all with my Evo 3D, and i'm getting excellent battery life.

The 3D feature on the Evo 3D is entirely optional. It's there if you want it. Otherwise, you can use the phone sans 3D with no ill effects. But I encourage you to try it out. You might be pleasantly surprised.

I also got the 4G the day it was released, June 4th 2010. I loved that phone. Never had a major problem with it. Had the same phone until I bought the 3D. I got the 3D a few days before it was released in the stores. Love the phone, even though I'm on my second one. For me Sense 3.0, more memory, and a better screen made all the difference. I don't really use the 3D much, except to watch some 3D movies on. This phone has more options than the 4G. And Gingerbread seems to me, to work better on the 3D than it did on the 4G.

Ok, I did it and got the 3D. Holy cow this phone is fast and smooth!! I also like the form factor on this better than the 4G. It feels less bulky in my hand, which is good because my hands are pretty small. I've had it less than an hour and I am happy so far! Will stay close to the forum for any questions and tips. Thanks guys! :)

Imho it was a worthy upgrade. I have had mine since 6/23 and have been extremely satisfied with it. I use the 3D aspect much more than I anticipated and enjoy the full mirroring using MHL. Battery life out of the box is much better than my rooted Evo 4g. I also like the fact that you can take screen shots natively now. The SGS2 apparently can also take native screenshots and has full mirroring as well but I don't know if it uses MHL because I believe MHL is the technology used for transfer of 3D material to your TV. I can watch videos and view picture slide shows that were taken in 3D in 2D if the tv is not a 3D tv.

I have never considered changing devices but that is just me. This is a perfect time to be upgrading due to all the great options out there.

Oh, as for rooting, I rooted as soon as root was available and if you are familiar with using the command line you should be OK if you have the older hboot. I haven't tried obviously with the newer version so I can't comment on that.

Call quality has been excellent. I did have the newest PRL that has messed so many people up but I reverted and now my 3G speeds are back up. I have also noticed I am getting 4G at home now.

I hope that gives you at least something to go by.

I switched to the 3D from the Evo and have not regretted it at all. Sold my old evo online for $150 and picked up the new one for $200. $50 for an upgrade isn't so bad. I love the higher resolution screen, and definitely notice that the phone is snappier. The dedicated camera button is a nice touch, too Battery life is good as well.

No complaints here!

Same here, I moved from the evo 4g to the evo 3d and I am not looking back at all. I will say this though, the evo 4g will probably go down as the one phone that totally changed the smartphone game to me and if the evo 4g had a jersey number it would be retired and would be hanging from the rafters. In any case, the evo 3d is awesome and its a worthy upgrade.

Last couple of years I went from the Touch Pro to the Touch Pro 2 then to the EVO 4g and lastly the 3D ...Each one was a vast improvement...I already had the MOPho as well but returned it in 3 weeks because of the constant freezing issues...I like running everything on my phones like the way they are supposed to run...If thats gonna lock up the phone then I just return it...Only had to do it with the MoPho and that was after a Sprint Update...

The EVO has everthing you need and more and I will hold onto this phone till the next one...which for me will probably be an HTC Phone (Most Likey the HTC Blast)...This will be one helluva phone if you read the early reports on it...

So far this phone (Evo 3D) surpasses all the HTC's I owned and the Mopho as well...the only issue for me was the speaker(fixed that already)and the Battery Life which is fixed as well...I just bought the Seidio 4000mAh battery at Amazon for $57 ...an outrageous cheep price...

I cant see buyin a bunch of batteries and rechargin all the time to use...I charge the Seidio once every two days and I'm runnin Ultimate Juice...And Like I said you get easily a 2 day charge on this with normal use and everything runnin in the backround...I ran the Seidio 3500 and Ultimate Juice in the 4G and got the same excellent results as well...Both of these products are great and highly I recommend them...

So I'm glad I updated to the 3D...And when its sees its last days it will hit the auction block at Ebay...I got $225 for the 4G there...so the phone paid for itself...hopin to get the same for this one when its time...you just got to throw in sum accessories and people will buy it...I've sold all my phones there...never traded one in at Sprint...

Lastly I will root...seems to be a better way to get the most out of the phone...although as of now...No Complaints...

I made the move one week after the 3d came out. I'm happy I did because the extra memory for apps. It's seems snapper plus no more force closes. Now my next issues are do I need the extended battery but the bulk on the back case kind of frightens me. And a cradle. I really don't need one but it would be kind of cool to have one. So, Ms Kady, glad to see you made the move and now you're using won't have to wonder if you should have done it

Ronny, I don't know if I am just in a silly mood or what but when I read "MoPho" I really did laugh out loud! I haven't seen the Photon referred to that way before. Reminds me of the union of two words, the first being "mother." Maybe they do in their forums and I just didn't know because I have no reason to go over there.

Yep ...Thats where its from the PPC Geeks Forum and the Photon Forum over here...sum of the owners refer to the Photon by that name...I kinda liked it when I first heard it and now they got me doin it...

It was a nice phone ...but I coudn't deal with all the freezes...(and there were many...)and a lot of restarts and hard resets...I did the new update which fixed sum issues but not that...I was in my 30 days so I brought it back...

But I remember with the older EVO and the one I have now...I just don't get the freeze ups and countless numbers of restarts and hard resets...So I'm stayin with the 3D...Till the Blast cums out...

Bigger Battery...4.7 Screen and 1.5 Processor...Sounds like it will be a Blast...No Pun Intended...

Of course the pun was intended! ;)

Haha, this reminds me of a thread here a while back about the "OG" EVO term and how it came about. Someone suggested it stands for "Original Gangsta!" :D

I did. Overall the phone is better as far as quickness. new form factor may be better also. However the camera still sucks pipe! Push button...all of two seconds before it snaps with all the auto focus, face detection and crap off. Just horrible!! Other than that, same phone really. Batt life is better stock than I could ever get the 4G to give me, rooted.
