HTC EVO 4G vs HTC EVO 3D (which is better?)

Not open for further replies.
I've just recently herd that the evo 4g are going to not be made anymore..? My question is that could I still get this phone before the "end of life" and still use it?
I'm going to be going to sprint this weekend (coming up) and setting up an account with them..I've been wanting the EVO 4g for a while now..and I don't know if I should get it now..

I herd the HTC Evo 3d is great! I've played around with it before just the screen hurts my eyes with the whole 3d-ness..Is there any way that I could turn it off? and keep it off and keep it 2d so it will be normal, I couldn't keep it 3d for long.
The only bad thing about this phone is that is only comes in black and I wanted the HTC EVO 4G in white..not black..also I like that its not 3d..

I'm not sure what to do..I really wanted the evo4g..but now since its stopped being made I dont know if I should still get it..

any opinions or suggestions?
thank you!

Does it have to be one of these phones? I would recommend the Epic 4G Touch or Photon 4G.

Both phones are better than the EVOs and you don't have to worry about 3D eye strains. The Epic 4G Touch will be the best, but the phone might be a little big for most (4.52 in.screen but the phone itself is barely noticeably bigger than the EVO 3D). So if it is I would go for the Photon.

I wouldn't get an EVO 4G because its pretty outdated now (probably why its end-of-line) So I would go for Photon or Epic Touch since you don't like the 3D. The Photon is already out and the Epic Touch is coming out September 16th

the evo 4G can still be purchased. you will still be able to get service on it. if you dont want the 3D then do not get the evo 3D. there are other handsets coming out on sprint that you may be interested in.

the evo 4G is a great handset. period.

the 3D part of the evo 3D is the camera and video you can take with it. you can also look at 3D content.

the display does not stay in 3D. you don't ever have to use the 3D, however since this is one of the main selling points for the device, it would be a bit of a waste to purchase if not to use the 3D.

please dont judge a device just because it does not come in a certain color? the evo 4G is not entirely white and if you put a case on it you can even see the back panel which is what is white. you can get a case and have it any color you want.

I agree with some of the above post. there are other handsets coming out, however stating one handset is better than the other is purely subjective and unique to the individual, so if you are interested in other handsets, best go to the store and try them out for yourself to make any final decisions.

'course its your money and you do with it as you please. I am just giving you food for thought.

there is talk of a white evo 3D also coming to radio shack on the 9th of September.

Thank you you guys, this helped me out a bit.
I have herd about those another phones, I haven't looked at them yet but I will just to check them out.
I am just nervous if I do end up getting the evo then it would break and I couldn't get a new one since its not being made anymore. I probably would have ended up getting the phone in black anyway and get a case for it too ahah.

Hmm..I liked the evo 3d when I messed around with the one my friend had..It was interesting..I'm not so sure if I would buy it though.
I'll check out the other phones and see if I like them. I just liked the screen size of the evo and how it looks..Does anyone know if the other phones are similar in size?

Thanks again! I appreicate it!

EVO 3D: 126x66x12.05mm
Photon 4G: 129.9x66.9x12.2mm
Epic 4G Touch: 129.9x69.6x9.59mm

The Epic 4G Touch might be a little wider but it's incredibly thin!!

Here's a model size comparizon of all of them:

OP,

yes its wise to go into the store and play with the devices. words on a forum mean nothing.. its how you like the feel and use of the device. all of these handsets have similar size and feel. Sprint will have a great selection of handsets in the next month or so so having choices is a good thing! plus you get 30 days to try a device out.

there are forums for all fo these handsets. take a stroll through them to see what others have to say. then, go into the store try one on for size (like you would at a clothing boutique). :)

The EVO 3D burns the Photon all day long. I had a Photon that work gave me for a few days and I returned it to them so I could go back to my EVO 3D almost right away. The processor is faster, MHL, Sense 3.0, better display, and better build quality are all reasons the EVO 3D is a superior device. On top of that no cell phone company has software support that is even close to HTC's. The 3D is a feature of the device, a bonus, that you don't have to use if you think it causes you eye strain. For most people it hasn't.

The Epic 4G Touch (aka SGS2) is a great device that isn't even out yet. The EVO 3D is as good if not better than it.

Having both the Evo4g and 3D I would only recommend the 3D over the 4g because it has a nicer display and a better processor. I hate 3 things about the 3D:

No kickstand
Skinnier screen
Side charging instead of bottom
I would add the form factor as well after handling a sensation. I liked it much better.

Honestly I feel if the 3D came with the exact same dimensions as the 4g, with the kickstand, and keep the new hardware and screen it would be my last phone. That would make it a worthy successor to the OG Evo.

If you can handle the Game Boy Color screen, the Photon is a pretty nice phone.

First of all, even though the Photon has a Tegra 2 which is a sucky processor, it is 2x smoother than the 3VO. Probably because of how heavy Sense 3.0 is, its more eye candy than functionality. Even though the Photon's screen is pentile, its screen is way brighter and more vibrant than the 3VO's. Also, Kickstand! Lack of MHL is the only downside to this phone but the build quality IMO is better than the heavy 3VO. The photon is definitely 2nd to the SGS2.

The SGS2 definitely the best phone out and the Epic 4G Touch actually improves on the internal version (Screen Size, Battery, Notification Light). So if it runs the same it will also be better than the 3VO.

Now the EVO 3D is a great phone, I would say 3rd best. But you obviously didn't do much research on the Photon if you think the EVO 3D is better than it.

I've did research on all of phones..they all seem like wonderful phones (in thier own way)
I will also look at the other forums on here as well and see what everyone says about these other phones.

Thanks so much you guys!! I really appreicate it!

I think the OP gets the idea folks.

all of the handsets mentioned here are great devices and each is meant for a different person. lets not force feed ones idea over another. there are plenty of threads on phone specs throughout this forum.

I'm going to close this thread as the OP has some good information on how to proceed. OP there are forums for each of these devices so i recommend you taking some time and reading through all of them to get an overall view of the devices.

AS you get closer to a decision, if you need more help, start up a thread with a specific focus and we all will be glad to help.

I'm going to be going to sprint tomorrow to set up an account with them. I've been looking at the HTC Evo 3d and the HTC EVO 4g.
I'm still not sure which to get just yet.
I'm afraid to get the EVO since its being discontinued..My friend said to get that phone and get insurance on it and I'll be fine..
My other friend said just to go with the EVO 3d..
I know the EVO will be cheaper if I do get that tomorrow..but which one is worth getting?

I like both phones, I'm just not really sure which one to get..hmm..

I would like for some opinions or suggestions please & thank you!:)

The evo3d is an amazing phone. It's everything the evo4g was, wanted to be, and wasn't good enough to be. Seriously. I loved my 4g but it just doesn't compare to the 3d. If you're into rooting and flashing roms the dev community is really heating up on it too. It's well worth the extra $100 they're asking for it.

I could have gotten any of the next gen phones that are coming to sprint and I chose the evo3d. And the 3d portion of it had nothing to do with my decision either.

OP,

put your post back with your other thread you started asking the same thing.

you should have plenty of opinions here.

since you are going to the store, play with both and make up your mind then.

the EVO 4G, although no longer being made, will still have support for it as well as accessories. it is a very popular device.

the 3G is also a popular device. it is a great handset. the 3D is a gimmick but it is good for what it does. it will wet the appetite fir the average use who wants to try on 3D. the handset stands on its own merits without the 3D part and you dont ever have to use the 3D if you dont want to (as others have mentioned).

in the end, pick the device that works for you in your environment. be careful with listening to the store rep.. they are there to sell you a device regardless so make sure you ask the questions that matter to you.

head over to the 3D forums and the 4G forums and read the review threads of users if you need more feedback. if you need direct help, send me a PM.

all the best on your decision.
