Bionic or iPhone

I have to ask. I don't really want an iPhone. I have a Touch and would get the iPhone if it was 4G. Also I was going to get a Charge but decided to wait for the Bionic. I missed unlimited data anyway. So will I be able to do the following. Granted i will need applications.

1. Sync my iTunes music and pod casts. WinAmp looks like the best bet. Can music be put on the card?
2. Office Documents. DTG on the Touch is a disappointment. Dataviz should be embarrassed. Quickoffice is better. Which allows editing and creating documents on the Motorola phones.
3. Import in contacts in categories from Outlook pst file and schedule stuff. I use Pocket Informant.
4. Can a photo library in a folder on my PC be synced with categories by folder?
5. Is there a good RPN calculator like the m48?

Waiting on Thursday. And I start work at 6:00 am and cannot get to the Costco until after 5:00 pm.

It's hard to say given there is not much info on the 5. But, IMO, the only reason to get any iPhone is for the simplicity of iOS, and the music player (I think the iPhones have the best). Anroid phones can do more things than Apple phones.

i agree... only advantage of iOS is simplicity and stablity(less bugs)

it is useful to those who dont know what they are doing... kids, grannies and those who arent great with techs..

there are literally thousands of comparison between iOS and Android. if people wants to buy the device that offers them less, good for them... and its fine as long as they are properly informed.

I doubt you will get very many balanced viewpoints here, but I'll give it a try. I've used both iOS and Android over the last couple of years. First I had iPhones, then the Droid X, then back to iPhone 4, and now I'm getting a Bionic.

From your very first statement "I really don't want an iPhone", it sounds like you've already made up your mind, but just want reassurance (and that's fine). But here's my take:

It's not really accurate to say that Android is more open. Yes, Google gives the OS away for free, but their proprietary things like Market, Gmail, and Search are not really completely open. Nor is an Android phone necessarily more customizable than an iPhone. You can do many of the things on a Jailbroken iPhone that you can do on a rooted Android phone. Not everything, true, but quite a bit nonetheless. One example is Google Voice. Most users think that Google Voice is not very good on an iPhone because you can't integrate it into the OS like Android can. However, on a Jailbroken iPhone, you truly can integrate Google Voice into the OS for voice and texting.

I've been using the iOS 5 beta since early this summer, and it's definitely added some nice features. Yes, many of them are similar to Android. But Android also copied a lot of iPhone, so who really cares who copied who? At the end of the day, iOS has a slight advantage in polish and ease of use, while Android has a slight advantage in customization and flexibility. In terms of hardware, Android offers choice while iPhone offers consistency and reliability.

This year, for me it simply comes down to LTE. There's a 99% chance that the iPhone 5 will NOT have LTE. And since LTE is coming to my area on 9/15, I am willing to switch OS's again just to have it. Perhaps I will switch back to iOS again next year when Apple releases an LTE iPhone. Or perhaps not.

At any rate, for those of us who are platform agnostic, the best thing to do is keep your basic services cross-platform. For example, I sync my contacts and calendar with iCloud and Google, so no matter which phone I get, it's as easy as logging in with my ID and my contacts and calendars will appear. Apps are a little different, but I also have a couple of iPads so I still spend most of my money on iOS apps.

I too am one of the many on here that switch back and forth constantly between iOS and Android. Phone are rooted and Jailbroken however i prefer each for diiferent reasons. With LTE launching in my area this month I will pick up the Bionic, if iPhone 5 launches with LTE, I may just grab one of those too. Get what works for you, the only way you lose is by sitting on the sideline waiting for the next best thing. Life is too short!

Most iPhone people have no idea how behind it really is from a tech. end nor do they even know why they have one. Its just the "cool" thing to have.

Sigh, it appears that both iPhone and Android users alike can easily be shallow-minded:

- The iPhone is over a year old and still the #1 selling Smartphone. It's only behind technology because they haven't released a new one yet. Please compare the iPhone 5 to the latest Android headsets, and then re-evaluate your statement. Perhaps it may still be behind in the "specs" department, but time and time again, that is shown to matter very little in terms of sales. This is true in the Smartphone category as well as many others (videogame hardware is another good example).

- There are well-informed iPhone and Android users that know their platforms very well. And there are uninformed users who think the iPhone 4 is a "4G" phone, just like there are Android users that think all Android phones are "Droids". There are Android users who like to root their phones, and there are iPhone users who like to Jailbreak their phones. There's no need to stereotype users of either platform, since people are people no matter what phone they have.

As a platform-agnostic user myself, it amazes me that we always must declare a winner and declare ourselves to be on the "right" side. Apple has shown that a closed platform can be very successful, and Google has shown that a modular commoditized platform can be very successful. There doesn't have to be a winner, nor should one really be desired.

If Android is the platform known for "choice", then let's be happy that we can still "choose" between Android, iOS, Windows Phone, Blackberry, etc.

I imagine each Costco has a clientele unique unto itself so I can't say with any certainty. While there is def some buzz about this phone with the customers, most of our customers aren't going to have a clue. If we only got 10 in, I'd imagine they'd last a week. But hey, never know.
