Root So, Labor Day weekend...

I hope LTB comes back, I like his roms but he releases roms for how many phones now?

I will likely give OMG roms a try again hopefully I can get them to work on my phone. It could be that the next wave of roms for the phone will be Senseless roms as someone mentioned last week.

Like I have said before, our phones are twins separated at birth. My phone did not play well with OMFGB.

It was me that suggested that senseless ROMS are the next wave. It was based on the appearance of this type of ROM (along with McLabia's de-sensing instructions) and the fact that it seems like CM7 may never get mainstreamed, and most AOSP ROM's are based on it. I am not a MIUI fan, but others are and it seems like that is going nowhere. While not everyone likes sense, you have to admit there are far fewer things broken with sense roms. Pretty much everything works out of the box except voice mail on gingerbread ROMS, and that will go away shortly. Don't get me wrong...there are some things about AOSP that I like better. Dumb example, but the power status bar widget thing is awesome. Sense also does not have a good 3G only switch. The cyanomod and even better, liquid, settings are significantly better than their sense equivalents. BUT, the sense ROMS seem to have caught up on battery life, and like I said, they pretty much work with less effort.

If CM7 based roms stop being supported and I cannot get OMFGB and my phone to get along, desensed is the direction I will be heading.

Or you can talk my wife into getting me a bionic or vigor, lol.

I did figure out how to get OMG based roms to work (more or less) on my phone. If I format system, factory reset, and wipe my cache/dalvik then OMG roms will run smoothly for the most part. I really like the way CM runs better but if it came down to it then I would try running with an OMG rom before going Senseless. I do see that sense roms are having less and less issues compared to AOSP but I don't see a point in using it as I already chew up memory with SPB shell (no need for rosie) and widget locker (no sense lockscreen) so I have replaced all elements where sense would be there, so I usually like to stick with speedy roms with as small of a footprint as I can get. Yeah it would be nice to have VVM working better than getting texts from VZW when I miss a call but it is something I am willing to lose.

I thought it was you who said that but I really couldn't remember ;) had myself a good long weekend

I flashed Shift 2.0f today, it isn't bad. Seems about the same as 1.2, I also flashed blacktheory today as well, liked the boot ani so I kanged it to shift. Also the new release of CM7 isn't bad either. I do wish Liquid would release perhaps 2.7. I get the feeling that until something comes out with ICS we are going to be stalled in the AOSP world but once ICS breaks thru then we will be getting more AOSP than sense updates (unless of course ICS is followed by sense 3.5 on the vigor but I think we will see that before the next nexus phone)

So 2.0 or 1.2? Which would you recommend?

I honestly haven't noticed any real difference. If you want the latest and "greatest" then 2.0 if you already have 1.2 downloaded then 1.2, if you want something that is different then I would say flash blacktheory, it is OMG based with some CM elements but I just like CM more;)

FWIW the release #3 of the UberBAMF rom has been rock solid for me after I flashed the camera fix. The voicemail notification issue has not affected me either because I use Google Voice.

I love the Sense 3.0 lock screen.

^^This makes me laugh, let's have an AOSP discussion and we get info on a Sense rom :D

Or should I be asking is UberBAMF CM based or OMG? Perhaps my missing the long weekend I missed some really big things

I think we will see sense 3.5 roms before ICS roms. They already have 3.5 running on the desire hd. It is going to be on the Bliss and the Bliss should be out a little while before the Vigor...I bet it has 3.5, too. I think the Bliss is 3G, so we might have to wait for the leaks from the Vigor to get a working 3.5 sense.

ports from the vigor will be difficult, due to the different screen resolution, just as they are from the kingdom and shooter. i think youre right,tho... we prolly will see that before we see ICS. those wildfire guys are a devoted bunch,lol... theyve always got shit figured out lickity split. same for the hero guys... they get some really complex roms running on that lil phone.

there is no doubt that we will see ICS,unless its got some serious hardware requirements. as soon as google releases the source code, well have cm8 :D hopefully the RIL doesnt have to be figured out all over, and hopefully we will finally get merged into the mainline and have nightlys.

after the discussions on sensless roms,i ran shifts3ns3 for about a day and a half. i still get worse battery, but it is alot closer than it used to be.

im liking 2.0 alot. i flashed the themechooser zip, wich blacked out my mms, etc, and then didnt select it in the theme choser app. so i have the 2.0 icons and such in the pulldown and status bar,and the greyed out mms, etc. best of both worlds :D

i also like my cm settings,so im not in a huge hurry to test out black ao5p.

There shouldn't be any hardware issues. Something I read (I can't source it now) spoke about how google wanted ICS to run on all current hardware, I suppose they are tired of dealing with the people yelling "fragmentation will kill Android"

No problem buddy, I was just giving you a hard time ;) Like I said you gave me a good laugh, which I needed I've been working with people who have flooded houses and broken cars thanks to the recent storms

How did you do this themechooser that you are talking so? Did I miss something when I installed? Could you take and post some screens of your phone to show what you are talking about, please? :)

there have been 2 .zips.

the first one you just flashed in recovery and it changed the mms, dialer, and contacts to greyed out transparent, and gave you some different icons and such in the notification bar and pull down.

the 2nd one was designed to work with the "theme choser" app. in theory, you flash it in recovery, then select it in the rom with theme choser app,and it changes to that theme. however when you flash it,youve allready got the greyed out mms,etc when you boot. you can pick burnt in theme choser to get the rest of the theme(icons) if you want it.

in version 2.0f the battery indicator is different,as well as the icons. if you look at the thread on rootz ( [ROM][UNOFFICIAL] SHIFTAO5P V1.2X [AOSP/CM7] Eclipse B5 Kernel (8/26/2011)) ) the screenies there are showing the burnt theme.

the incredible is another good example of a device whose "top name" devs have moved on,yet there are still alot of great roms as other devs "upgrade" to used devices. got a link to this 3.5 port?

edit: inc 3.5 port: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1247257 check out the screenies, looks like some funkiness with the launcher  i havent really seen any other 3.5 screenshots or info yet. i can see how the sense fans will be pretty exicted about it. if its running on an inc,im sure its a matter of time before we get it.

I just flash the 1st .zip with a flash of Shift 2.0. So I'm not really sure what the difference would be, oh well.
