Duplicate Contacts

Hi,

I am having a problem with my contacts being duplicated. I hoped when I upgraded to android 2.3, that the problem would be resolved but it hasn't.

As you can see from my attachments, the only contacts I have ticked to display is SyncML, but even so, when I select a contact, their number shows 3 times. I have attached a contact of mine, which should be showing as Crooked Lum (as shown under SyncML), but it is showing in my phonebook as the google contact.

Can anyone tell me how I can sort my contacts, so that I only have one number showing for each person and to have the SyncML as my main contact number?

Well, here is kind of how it works.

If you have backed up your contacts to Sony online (which it appears you have) and if you have also backed up your contacts on the SIM card and if you have also connected to facebook and merged facebook data, then you restore your contacts.....it will import each contact 3 times.

When you create a new contact it should ask you where you want to store that contact....either online (using email account you setup with Sony) or SIM card or something else.

If you open Contacts and hit the left button (menu button) is there an option to merge?

If you do chose Delete Contacts, it wil give you a list of all your contacts and where they are set to backup (to the email address) and it will also list any other contacts and where they came from. Delete them in there.

If you delete any of the one's that are listed with the email account it will stop backing up using Backup and Sync.

Ideally you want all your contacts listed that way, so that all contacts are backed up online when you have Backup and Sync turned on.

If that doesn't help....maybe check out some apps. https://market.android.com/search?q=duplicate+contacts&so=1&c=apps

Hi beau420,

Thanks for your reply. I discovered that if I went into a contact, selected edit, then pressed the left hand button and selected Separate, that splits up the various accounts and now I am only showing my SyncML contacts. :)

I will now need to let SE tech department know, as they have been looking into this problem for over a month now.

:D Happy as Larry :D

If you connect to facebook or have your contacts in more than 1 place, your options when you hit that button will be to Merge or Split (if already merged)

It has been that way since at least 2.1.....I think it was like that in 1.6 too. Nothing new.

Glad is it doing what you want....hopefully you didn't put much time to trying to fix it.
