I repeatedly see people having issues with things, and a lot of them are pretty easy to fix. It's one of those things where I cringe, because I see people doing things that shouldn't be done, but at one time, I admittedly didn't really know any better. The new root method has brought in a lot of new root users. Welcome to the forums by the way!
So here are a couple of things that I would consider to be sort of the root bible if you will.
1) Use Amon RA recovery - I'm sure Clockwork and TWRP are nice, but nobody has issues with using Amon RA. The newest version is 2.3, and you should be running this as the recovery on your phone. It supports all scripts (amend and edify), it wipes everything correctly, it just plan works. I almost feel like the Rooting for Dummies thread should be updated to tell people to use Amon RA only.
2) Avoid ROM Manager - This probably makes me cringe more than anything. Learn to flash everything in recovery manually. I wouldn't bother doing anything in ROM Manager, except maybe running a fix_permissions command, which you can do quickly in a terminal emulator anyway by pressing "su", hitting enter, and then typing fix_permissions. ROM Manager is buggy, and if you flash something using it, then don't be surprised if you have problems.
3) Make a Nandroid Backup and keep it safe - Maybe this should be rule #1. ALWAYS have a backup on your phone's SD card and always keep at least one copy on your PC so if something happens with your SD card, then you can easily get a nandroid backup replaced. There is no excuse to not make a nandroid backup. Pretty much any recovery will backup your Wimax keys, but again, use Amon RA.
4) When in doubt, wipe cache and dalvik cache - When flashing something in recovery, this is almost always required. Even when it's not, I do it anyway. Full data wipes are only required when going from rom to rom, but cache and dalvik cache are required for most everything else. You can't go wrong by doing this.
5) Don't feel like you're asking a stupid question, ask away! - No question is stupid, so ask if you have a question. Everyone on this forum is incredibly helpful, and Ocnbrze apparently does nothing but check this forum all day long, so you will get incredibly quick responses from someone on this forum if you have a question or issue We were all n00bs at one point, and you can't learn everything overnight.
I guess that's all I can think of at the moment. Happy flashing to everybody here.
