My Ascend, along with my wife's, will reboot at random times. They can be setting on the table, and all of a sudden just reboot. I've taken out the SD card, reformatted the SD card. It's not getting hot. Anything I can check, such as a log file? This is getting mildly irritating.

Could be a faulty Battery, connection, corrupted OS...

I had an issue with my Ascend rebooting sometimes, it was either an App crash or something, or something else, like when it was idle after I played music. This was all fixed after the 2.2 update.

What I'd suggest is maybe checking to see if any apps or settings that you both changed/made, reverting them and seeing if it solves the problem. Its crazy, both going nuts like that, been playing with Roms have we?

If not, I think its too big of a coincidence that the Battery or connectors for it is acting up...

No, haven't been playing with ROMs :p too afraid if I go to CM7, that I would have to send my phone back down to FL to get it set for extended roaming again.

They only reboot, it seems, when they are doing nothing. Just setting there. If I'm on a call, using it for any reason, they don't reboot. That's what is ticking me off. Nothing I can see or catch to tell me what's going on.

I've read of several different models of phones w/this problem.
Sounds like the battery is fitting loosely in the battery compartment.
Try wedging a small piece of paper between the battery & the back cover. This should at least eliminate the possibily of a loose connection,or,possibly solve your problem.

Tried the battery, even looked at the casing with a magnifying glass

The battery is tight, and making good connection.

I'm still betting that at least one of the two phones you own have a battery problem.
I'd swap batteries w/the two phones to further troubleshoot.
If both phones continue to spontaneously re-boot,a trip to the point of purchase is in order.

I'd also recommend re-calibrating the batteries before doing this.
If this can't be accomplished using the stock recovery program, download a free battery calibrating app from the ANDROID MARKET.

I tried recalibrating, still no luck. It only does it when the phone is not in use. When I'm talking, surfing, GPSing, etc, it works fine, with no problems. Thinking of trying CM7, IF I don't have to send my phone back to FL to turn roaming back on.

Well, took the plunge and went to CM7. And I answered my own question, I didn't have to send my phone back to Florida to have it set up for roaming!!! So far, everything seems to be working with no problems. The phone hasn't rebooted yet, keeping my fingers crossed!

As for CM7, wow. Just wow.:D
