Never heard of them. However if they make their own phones and have the Android ROM customized to the hardware and they have done it right, their phones might be pretty good. Apple controls their hardware in every way, some times to the point of being a huge PITA, but they control it and the OS and end up with a very stable product.
Many and it turns out to be a great many of the Android producers just take some hardware and the Android OS and slap them together and if it half a$$ed works they put it out (Motorola Triumph anyone?) It is a very poor way of doing business and Motorola's already tarnished reputation is going to suffer for it.
If this XIAOMI company can match hardware to software with the same quality and stability that Apple does they could, given time to build up a reputation, set the brands on their ears.
If Google does buy Motorola they need to do a complete revamp of how it is run. QC needs to be increased many times over and if all else fails they need to change the name of the company, cut their losses over brand recognition, fire everyone running the place and get new blood.
