Root Can't root my DHD

I'm guessing your unable to root because of a lack of a goldcard with the SD card being an issue. If so its not really something your going to get much help with here unless you want to supply your address for one of us to post one to you??

Otherwise as El P suggests treat it like a maths exam and show us your working out lol ;)

If your phone is branded as in will only take simcards from a specific network your gonna need the goldcard. No two ways about it I'm afraid which means its going to be pointless trying any of the steps outlined until that element of the process has been boxed off. Once that is sorted pop back on here and we'll get you through it one way or another.

Group Hug time guys :p

Seriously though lilac, I've probably got a few spare SD Cards kicking about you're more than welcome to. I'll have a look for them when I get home from work in the morning. They've probably been "tidied" and put somewhere ridiculous, but I've def got a few.

Murzz, if this post was a week earlier, you'd have been in luck, we were in Edinburgh last Saturday. There's a high probability we'll be there again before November so I'll let you know.

Why not ask for one of those too?? lol someone might have a spare one of those lying about the place...what a pointless thread...

Wasn't the sdcard actually your suggestion? ;)

Do you not have an sdcard in your phone LilacBleeds? I see you've listed DHD '8GB' under your devices. The phone comes with 1.5GB of built in storage and a 8GB sdcard, so I would presume you've got one in your phone right now.

There's no reason you can't make the one in your phone into a goldcard; it doesn't stop it working as a regular sdcard. Just backup your data from the card to your PC before you start and then once you've done rooting, you can transfer the data back to the card and you're set.

I'd said this off forum but I can't understand coming onto the section of the forum where you request technical help to sort your software issues out just to say "I can't root...not because I can't grasp the procedure or I'm getting an error message but really just cos I'm skint and haven't got an sd card" I'd have had more time for this if Lilac had just said outright if anyone would mind setting up a goldcard and sending to her. (Could be Fat Baz living above his local Chip Shop for all we know but lets take things at face value.) :p

This thread follows the same constructive elements as if I'd posted up saying I can't download UNO. Then a raft of people asking me to explain any error messages I'm getting, what version of the market app, if the issue was with Google Checkout etc and then me saying I'm skint and can't afford it...then up offers pop and say voila no worries I have a couple of quid lying about I'll send it to you so you can buy it lol. ;)

(Of which I am open to offers btw...lol)

Nothing personal about any of this...I actually find it quite funny.

If that is indeed LilacBleeds's situation then I would hope she wouldn't be afraid to ask openly here - this is far from the first time I've seen people offer to send sdcards to those who need them. It's not an outrageous request :)

(Heck, I know you were joking but I did once see someone generously give away a PC to somebody here when theirs broke).

Still, unless you've lost your card that came with the phone LilacBleeds, you should be fine already. However, if you are having trouble understanding the procedure of rooting I would question if tampering with a

That doesn't matter. Downgrading your phone will wipe your phone's memory completely, like a factory reset. Likewise, making a goldcard will wipe all of the data on your sdcard, if I can recall correctly. So it doesn't matter how much data is on there right now :p

What you would have to do is first backup your apps/contacts/SMS messages to the sdcard (using apps from the market), and then copy all of your sdcard's data somewhere safe onto your PC.

Then when you're done with rooting, you copy the data back to the sdcard and use the same apps to restore your apps/contacts/etc.

So that sdcard of yours is fine for the job, if you think rooting is the option for you.

That's true!

copy all of your sdcard's data somewhere safe onto your PC.

That's exactly what I ended up having to do, as the SD card I bought to use a a goldcard didn't work (apparently not all do)
