DROID Bionic And Accessory Bundle Costco Discussion Thread (Including Q&A from YankeeDudeL)

The sales tax thing actually varies by state. I know in California if you have a device with a supplemented cost, you pay tax on the full retail price. Instead of Complaining to Costco about it, she should probably write her state legislators.

that sucks :( but my experience with them on the phone was nothing but positive. They confirmed I would get the bundle and keep my unlimited data, and where very polite and helpful. I guess we'll see when my phone gets here though

1. You have until the first 14 days after your purchase to exchange your phone for a diff model. After that, you have until 90 days to exchange the phone for the same model. That is the policy. Sometimes there are exceptions to the rule depending on circumstances, and it's always a judgement call on the WSE (Wireless Sales Expert) and the KM (Kiosk Manager). So it may be possible, but I wouldn't count on it. Especially with us having such limited stock to start with.

Quick FWIW on this, my boss' 90 days on his Droid Charge would have expired on 9/12, but we went to Costco and they returned it no questions asked, then gave him the bundled Bionic for the same $279 I paid for mine. YMMV.

Cheers,

-SM

P.S. SO Glad to have my Bionic... it replaced an original Droid I got on day 1 however long ago they came out.

Thanks for the info Yankee, you rock! However that's terrible to hear i can only swap a Thunderbolt for another Thunderbolt after 14 days, my rep has a lot of explaining to do as when i got the phone I verified what he said about trading for any other phone in the 90 days five different times.

I'll see what happens, here's to hoping lol!

I guess this depends on the kiosk. The way Yanke explains it, it almost seems like it is a set in stone rule. However every Costco kiosk I call around here all states 90 day return and you can get a different phone. I got the Bionic yesterday and traded in my Charge (67 days old) there were no questions asked. The guy just said didn't like it huh?

Got my Bionic at Costco in Clifton, NJ today. They had just gotten the shipment of 9 phones when i showed up at 3:00 p.m. I got 2 (one for the hubby :)). He was very happy I was able to get it since we have separate accounts but he just provided the info over the phone. Very nice customer service from Frida. But the whole activation process took 2 hours! Broken Printer so everything had to be done manually!

Thanks to this forum and YankeeDudeL I got my phone early and didn't have to wait for Sept. 13th as stated on several online articles! ;)

Same situatuation here in Tucson. Kid returned his 70 day old charge.
They told him that is not how it's suopposed to go but did it any way. Verizon regional manager was on hand and raved about the 90 day exchange policy. Yes I said EXCHANGE policy. :)

That makes me feel a little better for sure! I guess it might vary by kiosk and my local Costco happens to have a few in stock today so I'll be trying my luck!

My only worry is not having the shoddy leather case. Maybe if I hop by the $1 store and pickup a similar one they won't notice/care? It's the only missing accessory I have :(

I wasn't able to get the original girl I talked to - she was busy on the phone. I got another one instead - and this is her....

On a side note - both pics taken with BIONIC, and both are blurry - are we seeing a recurrence of camera issues that the DROID had when it first came out?

If so, strike one.

My Costco did not get their shipment yesterday until late in the afternoon and I was already at work so I figured I would be out of luck until the 13th. I called today and was told they got another 6 in and still had 4 left. Thankfully I was off today, I drove right over and am a new Bionic owner. The bundle is ridiculous for the price. Gotta love Costco.

Maybe the batteries I had just took longer... I will leave my second battery on the extra charger while I am at work.

Yankee, would I have to exchange the phone too? And I already have some of the accessories set up...

You need everything but you won't actually exchange everything. It's just in order to get the new charger out of lock up, we have to do an exchange. Once it's out, they'll be able to just take the battery charger out of the bag and exchange it with yours. You shouldn't need to do an actual return of the phone, but have all your paperwork handy.

It's a bit of a pain, but all our accessories are packaged with the phones. Considering one will need to be replaced, the entire package will need to be. But we can get that from the depot, so it's better than exchanging a phone.

You're welcome! You very well may get the Bionic in exchange, especially if they told you that you could. But it's our policy to tell you that you're not supposed to. If the WSE wants to, that's all on him or her. We just don't want to give the perception that we will exchange a phone every time a new device comes out just because someone wants something better. My KM is more lenient than all of us, but he has the authority to be. lol

Hey Yankee,

I was wondering if I have a NE2 discount will that be applied to the $299 total? I assume I would have to pay before I walk out of the store unlike at a VZW retail store where I can bill my account?

This was answered for you, but I'll confirm it. We cannot do NE2 or early (13 month) upgrades. We still give a better deal than the VZW corporate store, though. And you pay for the phone at Costco's register, which they in turn bring the device back to us, and then we get you setup. It's a lil confusing at first, but we'll walk ya through it. :)

So glad you loved them. I have nothing good to say so far. I have 3 costco's near me (sort of, each is about 30 miles away). Yesterday I went to one and they were sold out by the time I got there (9:30 but 8 people ahead of me!). Called today and they said nothing in stock till the 13th.

Called other costco today and guy said "we have 43 people on waitlist". What waitlist?? He said 2-3 weeks to wait and then just hung up.

Third cosco lady was nicest. Said probably shipment today, call back at 1pm. DH went up there just now and other person said, nope, no shipment today. SORRY! What the heck?!?!

Oh, forgot I ordered on costco.com online yesterday. Called today because they charged me sales tax on $600 instead of $299 like the local Costcos. They said sorry, it's the way it is. Then the lady said, "oh and it will take 2 weeks to ship!" WHA??? She said 5 business days to process and 5 business days via UPS with no guarantee of it being in stock even though they charged my card. I cancelled the order. Frankly I would rather pick up just a phone at the local VZW store at this rate and pay the $259 they quoted me over the phone. Then I will have it in hand at least with no BS about "out of stock but you have ot pay for it".

Very poorly handled IMHO. Dont tell me they didn't see this demand for the last 9 months! UGH

Katherine

Terribly sorry you didn't have a pleasant experience in your dealings with us thus far. There are no excuses for a lack of professionalism and courtesy, even (and most especially) if we can not meet the guests needs. I hope this is more a result of the very unusual circumstances that we were presented with over the past two days, and that the short conversations were due to the likely overwhelming demand on our resources the Droid Bionic launch presented.

In terms of ordering off the internet, I cannot be sure of. That is actually a separate deal then the service we provide in store and I can not be sure of how the process is intended to run.

I can assure you that both Costco and Wireless Advocates were aware of the buzz behind this phone. However, we could not anticipate how well it would be received by our clientele. This is the highest priced phone Costco has ever put out, and our customers come to us because of the value we provide. It was very well received, and I think Costco learned as much about it's potential as our new customers have learned.

Well, yes, it is our policy and how it's supposed to be. I just wouldn't call it set in stone as every situation is unique unto itself, and we are committed to providing the best customer experience when purchasing a new phone.

Some WSEs have no issue giving you a diff phone after 14 days. Others simply won't without a proper reason like a genuine need to replace the phone, but the phone in question is out of stock or no longer being sold through us.

Does anyone know how long Costco will continue this promotion? I'm still in the process of deciding which phone to get (but really leaning towards the Bionic). This seems like a GREAT deal (considering just the phone is $300 at Verizon!) but I don't want to rush into anything.

Can't really say for sure, but I think it's safe to say that it'll continue throughout this month. When I know for sure that it's ending, I'll def let everyone know. And by then, the phone will go down in price and still be a significant value.

Yo Yankee Dude:

1st off: Go Yankees
2nd: Thanks for the help. I got the bundle on release day at about 10:30. The WAs that I worked with were very nice and helpful
3rd: Costco should be paying you for this!

1. Pride and pinstripes, brother.
2. You're very welcome. I hope you're enjoying your Bionic and bundle as much as I am.
3. I'd have settled for a free Bionic. :D

So just to keep everyone up to date, my kiosk got 6 more in today, and we should have a regular shipment on Monday. Big ups to our district manager on this one, he made it happen. I think it's fair to call this launch a success, and hopefully we'll see more of these in the future. Like 20 months from now when it's time for me to upgrade again. lmao

Day number two in the books, and I'm def in love.

Me too.

FWIW - I didn't order from CostCo nor WA online - I went in and made sure the phones would be there and then bought it on the spot.

Anyone else get a $20 discount on the price also? I paid $300.99 b/c the actual price rang up was $279.99....

And while I can understand you had a bad experience, you also have to put yourself in their shows - they were slammed with both in store customers *and* phone calls. If you read Yankee's post earlier, he went in to just get the phone - and ended up having to work on his day off to help his fellow kioskers out.

I'm not saying it was right - it was still wrong - but they're only human also.

Mine turned green overnight.

Does anyone know, what is the optimum setup for the extra battery and charger? Should I keep it plugged in charging 24x7? Should I leave it unplugged and not charging 24x7? Somewhere in between? lol thanks.

plugged in and charging should be fine, but as for optimal, not sure if this is or not. IIRC, LiON batteries charge differently, in that the charger circuitry backs off the current flow to a trickle when the battery is fully charged so that there is no damage to the battery.

I may be wrong, but I think that is how someone explained it to me before.

Question for Yankee:

I ordered my phone online from costco, and after reading alot of peoples reviews of the phone it seems that there are some "buggy" models being given to people. If I were to recieve one of these, would I be able to exchange it at a Costco store?

yup. As long as they had stock. And you'd need to take everything you received in the mail with you.

Mine did as well, apparently it just took some time.

I wouldn't leave it in ALL the time, because even though it does stop charging it at 100%, it will start again once it drops to 90% after multiples of weeks.

But again it would take probably a couple weeks/months to drop to 90% when not being used...

The Costco store at Antioch, CA. had 6 phones at 12PM today. I bought the first one they had and the salesman was happy to say I was the first to call today. Apparently they were expecting the shipment yesterday (9th) but it didn't arrive, so everyone that called was told that they didn't have any left and probably won't be getting any until Tuesday. Good for me, so many people gave up and gave me an opportunity to rush over and pick one up! I may have driven over 100 miles to get it, but I have it! Good-bye DroidX.

I think JG is right, but to be honest, I'm not quite positive. Was it the exact same deal, the accessory bundle for $280? The reason I'm not sure is because of how we put things in the system. If they use the same system we do, then it shouldn't be an issue. I'd imagine they do, but as I haven't encountered it yet, I haven't inquired about it. I'll ask to be sure, but if you want to try it before you hear back from me, I'd give it a shot.
