Optimus 2x or Galaxy S2?

Hey guys. I'm sure the question above has been posted before, but nothing I've read has helped me really decide so I'll just ask anyway.

I want a phone to do gaming and watch HD videos. Those two are what seems to be the best choices I've got in my country (so please, try not to suggest other phones.) But so far, two things bug me:
* From what I've read, even if the S2 has a more powerful processor, the 2x beats it in gaming performance due to optimization.
* On the other hand, I've read that the 2x isn't capable of doing 30fps in HD playback, while the S2 can.

So, my question boils down to this: how true are those two remarks, and how much is the difference in performance in each case? If the difference in movie framerate isn't that noticeable I might go for the 2x to get better gaming performance... but if the difference for gaming isn't that huge (or an outright lie) I'd get the S2 to get better video playback.

What do you guys think?

Thanks in advance for any recommendations I get; to be honest, I don't know much about Android phones.

For HD movies you have to get the Galaxy S II, it will play almost anything you throw at it without the need to download any other video players. Where as Tegra 2 based devices like the X2 really do struggle with certain formats, HD MKV files they just can't handle.

The Galaxy S II is allot faster when it comes to gaming, nvidia have released a small number of exclusive games for Tegra 2 devices but this has nothing to do with performance.

If you root you can run quite allot of them on the Galaxy S II and other devices anyway.

Huh, so that's what it was all about. Then S2 it is. Thanks! One more thing: is it worth it to install different firmware, like Cyanogenmod? Any firmware I should look at?

Well I should say some developers have released some exclusive stuff for nvidia's Tegra 2 but you can bet nvidia have influenced them in some way.

I personnally I don't bother with custom roms but there are plenty to choose from, just make sure you root the device and install Chainfire 3D, this will allow you to play a few of the Tegra 2 and also some qualcomm only games like Dead Space, Galaxy On Fire 2 and Riptide GP.

Chainfire 3D also lets you enable MSAA in 3D games 4x or 16x MSAA, if your a PC gamer you should know what that means. :)

As for firmware, KH3 (2.3.4) is the latest available however it's not official but works really well, new power saving feature included which is giving me two days battery life.

Having 16x MSAA sounds interesting :O I'll be sure to check that out. I guess I'll just have to try the roms out myself. Thanks a lot for your help!

I'd go with the Galaxy SII. I've owned an LG before and have to say, they are not very good. They stop updating their phones very quickly and seem to have quite a few issues.

And the SII is future proof since it has a dual core processor.

The LG has a dual core processor as well.

I still think the Galaxy S2 is the phone for you. Samsungs Exynos processor is just as capable for gaming and the HD (1080p even) video recording and playback is very nice :)
