Root Install Stock/Vanilla MMS/Messaging App?

I have been working on this all night. I hate the Blur messaging app. I want the vanilla app like I had on my OG Droid. I have tried several methods I've read about online for other phones. Nothing has worked. Has anyone else tried installing the vanilla MMS app? Any success? I really hope someone will know how to get this done

Really though I'd love to see the bootloader unlocked so we can just install custom ROMs. I'm really not impressed with Blur. I want the vanilla Android experience, and this phone will be great.

Operative question is, did you disable the stock messaging app or leave it active? By "disable" I mean either rename the .apk or freeze it using TiBu... That is actually my question.

I just disabled the notification on the stock and left it active. You can try and freeze it and if it doesn't work right just thaw it .

Figured it out. I had disabled Email Engine through TiBu (I only use Gmail) and it was causing the stock messaging app to force close. Re enabled it and now all is well.

Now, that woulda blindsided me.

WTF? Email stock app is tied into the stock messaging app? Man, this overlay is killing me. can't wait for an unlocked (permanently) bootloader already....

I want stock apps. The actual UI of he homescreen is kewl enough, but I'm addicted to my LPP sliding dock too - and I'll probably want that back on here soon.

So far I've tried the Messaging app and SoMed app (stock) and they're not bad, but I try to SMS via GV anyway, so I don't have to pay for extra SMS, and I prefer the native apps for the SoMed experiences - Twitter and FB to be exact (even though the FB app still leaves a lot to be desired).

After having played with it, though, I will say the stock SMS app has grown on me - but that's because I so rarely use regular SMS. I used Both of the biggies on my DROID (HandCent and the other one, start with a C?) and eventually I just reverted to the stock app and GV. The colors are nice, but overall, having everything tied to everything else like this is pretty stupid - if on of those apps gets corrupted how many apps does it take down with it?

Bad programming here. Big strike against Moto (or Android, if this is actually how stock works on vanilla, but I don't *think* that is the case).

Good news is that it is only the "Email Engine", and not the other two apps associated with email. I "think" I remember seeing something in the Handcent defaults about certain SMS/MMS things being assisted by provider email. If that is the case, then it kind of makes sense...

But I'm right there with you. I hope that AOSP is a possibility with this phone (either through an unlocked bootloader or 2nd Init).

Still...oh. wait. I get it. Using a single engine for handling receiving and sending of information - that actually makes sense, sadly enough. Why have to full blown apps that have to run when managing data transmittal, when you can have 2 much smaller apps that share the common engine?

Of course, my original worry still applies- if the engine 'app' breaks, then both email and SMS stop working....

Practically, it makes perfect sense, and it's what we've been taught for years in programming - reuse modules. Reuse methods. Reuse anything and everything that you can..

But it still sucks if it breaks. Then again, I suppose it's no different than a core .DLL getting corrupted in Windows, too....

Yah, I've never managed to leave fr more than a week lol - Helping ppl left and right, watching phones, testing software....

A day in the life :D

And yeah, you have been gone, took me a little while to remember you (actually, to be truly honest, I didn't remember until you made your last post, which is when I went looking). Did you recently change your avatar also, or is it the same one you used before?
