Should I buy the Bionic

As much as I like my Bionic I am going to return it. The camera is horrible but other then that its great. I don't mind the screen, I think it looks good. The UI is great but I would like a camera that does not take 5-8 seconds to focus just to take a horrible picture.

I decided to see that HTC has to offer with the Vigor. I will most likely pass that up to get the Prime if it actually hits.

You realize that will most likely be fixed in an update? Not to mention htc is crap with battery life. I hope htc worked that out because I am looking to get the vigor but if it has battery like the tb I will pass.

It might be but I am not going to take any chances. They had so much time to get everything together, the camera should be working by now. Either way Motorola cameras always suck so I don't think they will fix it. I am not really looking at the Vigor too much but if it wows me it will be mine.

IMO, moto camera software always sucks but gets better after the update. Besides the autofocus issue, the bionics camera is really good especially vids. I still like htc's camera software though but I can't really say the camera is better.

I wish that I could take HTCs camera software, Samsungs screen and motorolas radio and stick it on a nexus device haha. That's the perfect android phone. :)

To the OP- if you aren't having problems with your OG then you have the luxury of waiting it out for a bit. The bionic is always going to be here so its up to you.

To answer the question honestly and objectively, I think you should wait. It's a great phone and I have no doubt you'd be more than satisfied with it. However, you have a phone that is adequate and do not need to update. That gives you the freedom to wait for the next best thing, at least to the point where your phone is no longer adequate. I really think that a phone purchase shouldn't happen until you know that you either need a phone or will before too long.

Look at the specs and capabilities of the Bionic. Do they completely outweigh what you're capable of on your Droid and are you in need of the features that do? When you get a new phone, you're married to it for at least 20 months, so make it count.

Thanks for your reply.I pretty much was thinking the same way. I guess I was looking for someone to reaffirm my thoughts

Bought my Bionic today after a lot of soul searching. I gotta say I love the thin design of it, and it's super bright, especially outside.

I just can't get over the screen not being up to par. I don't want to return it and lose 4G by going back to my crappy other phone, but I don't want to go 2 more years with this screen, especially with Prime and Vigor coming out in the next 30 to 60 days, both HD screens. . . .:-(

I don't know what to do. I love the Bionic and hate it at the same time.

I feel bad saying, because I'm not in your shoes, so I can't fully say I feel the same way you do, but if I were you, I'd trade it in and only go back to 3G for said 30-60 days. That really isn't that long in the grand scheme of things...it's certainly shorter than the 20 months that you will be stuck with a screen you already dislike. Again, take what I'm saying with a grain of salt, but the way I see it, you are already upset with a major part of your new phone and you are still in the honeymoon phase. You should be head over heels with it and let the nagging, irritating parts surface at around 12-16 months. If you've got issues on day one, day 365+ is gonna be bad.

You do realize it is a phone and not a camera, the camera built into these phones is a side gig, for fun shots for emergencies, if you want a better camera there is not point in relying on a phone camera, I am a photographer and would never depend on ANY phone camera for any shot that is worth anything other than a snapshot, as to the phone it rocks.

Well I don't need a real camera for anything. I use my phones camera because its convenient. When the camera performs as poorly as the Bionics does they might as well have just put something else in there or not included it at all. My Droid Charge is more then usable after returning my Bionic so I will wait for the Prime.

Motorola had more then enough time to get everything working properly. I know its software related but it should have been fixed prior to release. I did not expect much from it because I have yet to own a Motorola phone with a camera that took good pictures but when it takes it 5-8 seconds to focus and take a horrible photo something is wrong with that.

I've had my Bionic for almost a week and can truly say I am not disappointed. This is a big step coming from the Eris but I have found with Android, updates, rooting, customization and some favorite apps I will always end up making the phone the way I want it anyway. The radio on the Bionic is fantastic and the call quality I have never heard better. A co-worker of mine is mad at me because we did a side-by-side comparison with his HTC sensation and the Bionic blew it out of the water. The only thing the other device had going for it was the form factor. Things are just working great on mine and I haven't had the issues some talk about. I'm even surprised at how well they have done with the battery-life.

However, if you are in any way OCD about personal electronic devices you will certainly find something wrong. But I do not regret this purchase one bit.
