Help Using a Droid 3 like an ipod?

Hi all...

Hopefully one of you knowledgeable android/Droid 3 members/users can help me;)

I don't download a lot of apps so I'm not too familiar with what's available in the market. I'm looking for an app that would allow me download music and create a playlist of some sort so I can use my Droid 3 like an ipod. I've been searching for a good deal on a used iphone 4 32gb but that seems unheard of.

I was in a local Verizon store the other day and the iphone 4 they had on display was streaming one of our local radio stations...does the droid 3 have that capability?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks a lot.:D

an app to play your own created playlists that you make, winamp is a good app.

for radio you have the preinstalled slacker or the much more prefered Pandora Radio.

you can also download apps for your local radion stations if they offer such apps.

The driod 3 also has an FM radio reciever in it so you could listen to the over the air radio, however you need to download an install a custom app for that available here on the forums.

as for the first part, im not sure of too many apps that let you -download- music. atleast not for free. There IS amazon mp3.

Thanks a bunch. I'm going to take a look at the mentioned apps and hopefully one of them does the trick. I just want to listen to music when I'm jogging and I'd rather not have to buy another phone to do so if I don't have to ;)

I really dug Google Music on my old Eris, and I'm absolutely loving it on my D3. Once the hassle of uploading all your tunes to the "cloud" is over, it does everything you'd need it to do (besides the radio, natch). Of course, all the music in your cloud is yours and there's no option yet to purchase directly thru Google Music. BUT if you go to magnifier.blogspot.com, you'll find new, free tunes that drop right into your collection with one click. What may appeal to you most is the ability to create playlists in the web interface which then show up in your playlists tab (just make sure the music in your playlist is synced). I found it kind of a chore to create and maintain them on the phone, so being able to use a laptop for the grunt work is ideal for me.

Google Music is still in beta and is invite only right now. But if you don't mind being part of a beta test, I can send you an invite to get you in. Just PM me your email addy and I'll send an invite over tonight.

For that purpose I use an app called TuneIn Radio, which finds and plays local stations that are streaming. It also will allow recording with the Pro version, which costs $0.99 on Amazon.

X3 on tune in radio. I used that app almost exclusively on my ipod touch and when i got my D3 i use it as well.

Also, the Motorola Media Link will directly sync itunes playlists and songs to your droid. I was actually surprised how nicely my droid works with my mac and iTunes with the media link

I was totally unaware of Media Link, thanks! Just downloaded it!

It plays all the stuff on my phone, songs and videos, plus podcasts and internet radio stations.

It also has a version for your PC.

I have used Pandora and the built-in music player before and they were good, but now I use DoubleTwist.

Life really got better when I adder Plug In Launcher to control what happens when the BT or audio plug connection is activated.

Now, I can get in my car, switch the car audio system to BT, and my D3 automatically launches DoubleTwist and starts playing what I want to hear.

I am using my D3 for way more than just a phone. In fact that may be it's least important function!

Full on Doubletwist is not free though. The free version always crashes on my PC and when i had my samsung so I dont use that.

I took my music from itunes, put it in Windows Media, hooked up my phone and there's my music. I never leave my PC on at home so cloud stuff doesnt work for me anyway.

I also use Pandora and TuneIn Radio. For album art i use Cover Art Downloader.
