MotoPrint is Sweet

I'm sure some of you have done this on your X, X2, X3, etc. but I'm coming from an OG Droid and I was unaware of it

I setup my MotoPrint on my DB (that was pre-installed) and it great printing from my Bionic to home and office copiers/printers wirelessly.

After loving it, I found it for my wife's Xoom (on the Market), which they charge you $4.25 for, but it's a great feature worth it.

Just sharin' the love.

I work at Sharp Electronics in the printer division and have been using it on all the printers here in the lab. It found all the printers on the network and sends documents with no problems.

Anytime you put a personal document with personal information on a cloud to print you are running the risk of that info being hacked. No thanks motoprint is the way to go.

If you are going to use Google's cloud print service via Chrome, Cloud Print by Paulo Fernandes is worth looking at.

Moto Print can print directly to pcl network printers and doesn't require a PC to be on.

Question, is it possible to install this application (even via just the apk) to any other Android phone?

I work at a copier dealership and have been looking for an application like this for a very long time.

I think the best way for other phones is to simply install chrome on a Work station or machine that is often on, enable cloud print and then install cloud print from market.

I have been using PrinterShare on my "X" and it works great, but I think MotoPrint sounds like a winner too. I'd like to try it but when I search the market for "MotoPrint" I don't find it. Anyone got any suggestions?

Did you set up the Host? Also, not sure if it's needed, I went into printer Properties > Sharing Tab > Selected "Share this printer"

You do need to be on the Wifi system your PC/Printer is on. EDIT (thks pdj84): I meant "the printer" needs to be on the Network or the printer can be connected directly to the PC that the MotoPrint Host is loaded & running on. And your Bionic needs to be connected to the Network your PC is on. The Bionic (using MotoPrint) sends the document to the PC, then the PC actually tells the printer to print it.

When you click on "At Home" or "At Work" for Adding a Printer, INITIALLY you will need to click on MOTOPRINT hosts (if you haven't already), choose the PC that you loaded the MOTOPRINT drivers on. Choose the Host shown, you may need to enter the PC's user name & password (I checked to SAVE the password). After that it SHOULD find your printer. However, I had a printer NOT show up in my office and manually entered the printer info (as it is shown on your PC showing printer name details).

Hope it finds it for you. Not sure all printers are available. All mine have worked including an older HP Officejet 4315 all in one small cartridge printer at Home and at Work I have two new printers - a Kyocera Large copier scanner & Kyocera laser printer.

Would you all mind a Motoprint newbie question, since you're using it successfully? I've played with it a little, and apparently it works backward from usual printing. That is, instead of telling a app (or program) that I want something sent to the printer, I have to open Motoprint and navigate to documents available for printing, then send the print command. Correct?

How, then, does one print a web page, which they say it can do? Do I have to capture it first as a PDF and then print from Motoprint?

I must say, the help info on Motoprint isn't only inadequate, but darn near nonexistent on the phone itself.

Good question Kathy, I just figured out how to print emails & PDF's but I will try a webpage and let you know.

I just checked the Motorola web site and found this page saying what Motoprint can print:

No mention of web pages, so I guess it can't. Would have sworn I read somewhere that it could....

After reading this thread, I decided to see if I could set it up and print a document from my Bionic. It worked like a charm, first time! This phone is so much better than my OG droid in every way.

I would go in your Printer Properties and look under Port (I think) and look for the IP ADDRESS and enter that in Motoprint - manually adding.

MotoPrint is cool. Works for both my home inkjet printers and most of the lasers in our office directly over the network without the PC being on.

I installed the Host PC app and then it works for ALL the Printers I have installed on my PC in the office but obviously the PC needs to be on for the ones not supported by direct printing.

How does that work? PrinterShare (mentioned above) supports many document and file-type formats directly, but it also installs a share target. I don't see anything like that for MotoPrint.

PritnerShare will print to tons of printers directly, without any host software. Sounds like folks are getting the same result with MotoPrint. I'm just not sure what advantage MotoPrint provides to folks who've been using PrinterShare for a while.
