A few questions on the Milestone (coming from Symbian)

Hi all,

I'm considering moving from Nokia to Android, probably to a Motorola Droid/Milestone with Android 2.0 and have a few questions:

does the native email client support imap idle (for non gmail mailboxes) and html email or shall I install another email client (like k-9) for imap idle?

with the native email client, when I delete an email from the phone, does it get deleted from the imap server, too? When I send an email from the phone, does it get uploaded to the 'sent items' folder in the server?

do Android and gmail use the very same fields for contacts, or are there mismatches which throw off the synchronization, as is common with other devices (Nokia)?

can it sync to only one google calendar or to more than one?

does it sync the google calendar tasks, too? This wasn't mentioned in the Droid manual

can I customize the home screen to summarize emails, appointments and tasks, like Symbians but unlike Iphones?

what would you say are the main differences/pros/cons vs Symbian?

Probably the shortest answer I can give to your very specific questions but...

Yes!



As for android/symbian. I was a nokia man for 15 odd years, n95 being the last. I reckon I'll now be an android man for the rest of my life.
There's a bit of a learning curve (holding things to pull up menus that don't come up with the normal button, figuring out configurations etc), but once you've got the hang of it it's brilliant.

The gmail sync is brilliant too - now when i move android phones i just do a quick sync, and all my contacts, mails, and calender stuff is immediately in my phone.

Thanks for the insight.
But how about non-gmail imap email? I use gmail to backup my contacts and for the calendar, but I won't be using it for email, so I need a good imap idle email client.

quite honestly, i don't know.

This guy seems to think so, but rob best to either contact k-9 yourself or do some digging to find out, sorry!

Hi,

There is an e-mail app pre-installed, pretty much like the e-mail app from Symbian. I just typed my e-mail and pw, and got my hotmail up and running as well. I do not use my internet provider e-mail account, so I can't say anymore. Hope this helps.
