Surprised No Whining/Complaining of No SD Card Included

from engadgets review

You also get an SD-to-microSD converter that you'll be able to use with the 16GB microSD card that comes pre-installed underneath the phone's back cover (though you don't need to remove the battery to get at it, which is nice). Why 16GB when AT&T's and T-Mobile's versions only include 2GB? Good question: turns out the Epic only has a little over 400MB of app storage internally -- not the capacious 16GB of the others -- so Sprint compensates by throwing in a beefy card.

I'm not going to complain because they couldve easily charged 300 dollars on contract like Verizon is doing with their top smartphones and we would've all paid that price. They had to cut back to make it 200 bucks. I already have micro sd cards and earbuds so I don't need more and if cutting those out keeps the price affordable I'm all for it.

It comes with plenty of memory. I think you are left with 11 something gigs after the Sprint bloat and what not. They are removable so I'm sure that will help. Some people have or think they need all the memory in the world. I think to myself like, what in the world do you keep on your phone that needs so much memory. I'm sure all of whatever it is is not even used. People like MORE but never utilize it. The term MORE just sounds good to people now a days.

Apps don't really take up that much. Pics are really small when it comes to taking up space. If you have heavy games, then that's a different story. Music can take up some space. I use Google Music player so it's never really on my phone. Over the air playing. I only keep 3 solid albums on my phone separate from the Google Music app that I like to listen to just in case I have a bad connection or something. Even then I carry an ipod around. Saves battery.

I remember when I scored a 32GB microSD card for $50 from Verizon direct because of a pricing error, it was the deal of the century. Now they aren't even $50. I remember the iPhone crowd crowing that a 32GB iPhone was only $99 more than the 16GB model, but a 32GB memory card was $150. Now you can get a 46GB phone for $47 extra.

i take a bunch of videos/photos. that and with my music (not a fan of streaming, i like to have the best quality i can get, ie 320kps. i listen to music thru my car via an aux cable, so i can easily hear the differences), i need as much space as i can get.

my launch evo3d already has 4.5gb worth of pics/videos.

so ~42gb will be great to have.

Went to buy a PNY 16GB Class 10 today for $49.99 at BB and they were all out...so they gave me the Sandisk instead :)

They didn't even have them out on display but had them in the same locked cabinet they keep the phone stock in.. Had a 10% off coupon as we moved recently and a rewards certificate so I landed it for $29 :)

Or here for $21.51 :

Amazon.com: Sandisk 16GB MicroSDHC Memory Card: Electronics

(You can tell that I don't like Best Buy's pricing on accessories.)

UPDATE: Although this is "only" a class 4, I can't imagine a class 10 would be appreciated by a mobile phone.

This was $21 just a few hours ago and it is now $14.70. Gotta love amazon! Also went ahead and purchased the sd adapter for $0.89. Get it now before the prices go up again!

here's my concern with no SD card, which will not be for many already with one from past devices or additional purchase, is if you have to factory reset the phone (you know you have had to do it at least once) all memory is wiped. that includes pics, videos, music, apps, etc.

well, at least that's what happened with my tab 10.1 with no external SD card. i'll have to go over to the nexus s forum to see how they go about dealing with that.

with that said, make sure you get an external SD card large enough to match the internal storage, IMHO. and, lets hope that the software allow for move to SD, and default to SD for pics and such.
