Trying to decide if I should grab the Epic 4G Touch tomorrow....but

I'm not too sure about switching over to Sprint, check out a pic of this coverage map and tell me what you think...

Seems a bit iffy, and there's no real way for me to test it out.

I get around 1.5-2.5mb dload and 800kb-1mb upload on AT&T with 2 bars of service. (I have absolutely no Verizon 4G here, so that's out of the question.)

Thoughts?

Well the main thing I would do if I was you is ask around your neighbors and find out if they have Sprint. If they do, ask about their thoughts on data, and voice coverage in the area.

I don't think it would be that terrible, when you're not in 4G you'll likely get a decent 3G signal. One other thing to think about is Sprint has a trial period, which is changing to 14 days tomorrow. So you could try it for 2 weeks and if it doesn't do the job for you, you can return it and cancel the service.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about 4G coverage too much. As nice as it is, it's most likely going put a hurting on your battery (from what I've read anyway). As touchy as the battery life issue is these days, I can't bring myself to rely on it. I have Wifi anywhere I want real speed anyway.

If 4G is something you really want though, keep in mind coverage is going to improve very shortly. Many places are getting 4G added within months and some places' 4G is being expanded. Also, Sprint is consolidating their networks at the beginning of the year, which is supposed to bring a big improvement in coverage.

In general, my Sprint service is comparable to my gf's AT&T service. While I'd rather have Verizon, as a new (hesitant) customer to Sprint, I've been ok with the service. Inside buildings still sucks though.

Also, I believe AT&T should get the SGS2 soon as well, right? If you have 4G with AT&T, it might be worth saving the activation fee and waiting out their version of the SGS2. It all depends on your priorities, I guess.

I have 4G with AT&T, it's just always been slow. As for waiting for the SGS2, I'll probably give it a few days to see if AT&T is launching it sometime soon or not.


PS: I do have unlimited data with AT&T, so even if I switched to Sprint and didn't like the service, I'd be pretty much screwed over switching back anyways.
