Honestly, I would want the apps gone. I would want everything gone!

Just like with a pc install, I would NEVER upgrade my version of Windows... I would want a clean install every time. Any issues you have, minor as they may be, could get upgraded. So to me the single best solution (other than rooting and going to a custom ROM) is to blow everything away, install the RUU, and enjoy.

The bugs in the RUU are minor, and will be easily patched when VZW gets off their butts and puts out a small OTA fix.

Just my 2 cents

I see your point.

I used to build puters and I always did a fresh install of a new OS.

I guess I just hate having to set up my phone again. :(

The one bug that worries me is the bluetooth bug that disconnects when you receive a text message. I use bluetooth in my car and that would be a big pain.

The GPS nag I have been hearing about but honestly don't know what is the issue may not be a big deal.

The Sprint issue is no issue to me at all since I never go into the VZW app section of the Market now.

The people it didn't wipe for, what rom where you on before? I have had 2 people that I completely trust flash the RUU, one it wiped the other it did not. The one it didn't would be Iowabowtech and if I am not mistaken he was on a GB already....... so........ ./me shrugs

I would have almost been willing to chalk my flash up as a fluke Doug. Strange things happen sometimes with electronics. But it's this post that seals the deal for me that something is up:

Just hooked up to the PC and used the .exe and all my apps were still on there. I think it's just not set up to wipe the phone before it installs.

Not normal. I just don't think enough people are actually running this thing to get affirmation. The guys at xda don't usually mess with this stuff b/c they're all flashing their way forward with dev roms. Hell, the only reason I flashed it was to test the thing or we'd have one fewer verifiable instance. So in my mind, there's a high failure rate...2 guys now out of a known small handful of flashes.

I too, am interested in your question about what people were running prior to flashing this RUU. I was on Jermaine's "stock plus" rom which is 2.3.4 with a few minor tweaks from stock (Sprint build.prop edit and a few of the worst offending bloat apps removed, extended reboot options, quick settings added to info bar). Also interested in any other theories that anyone comes up with.

Edit: Post #81 of the xda RUU thread...another person who ran the .exe and their apps remained. In their case, there was no data. I had data in most situations but did have to re-enter passwords and so forth as they mentioned. I didn't stay on it long enough to investigate all the oddities, there was enough present that I wanted out and back to the stability of a rooted rom and CWM, where wiping actually works lol.

I was on one based off stock 605.3 already also. Didn't think about that maybe being a reason it wouldn't wipe.

One full week and nobody got the update. It's safe to say Verizon pulled it. The question now is will Verizon be sending out 2 updates a corrected update for those who already got the messed up one and another for those who never got it to begin with?

I believe they would send out a patch to those that got the update already as I believe that is what they did for those who got the 605.2 update prior to that getting pulled.

Took VZW about 3 weeks to re-release the OTA after the first pull so hopefully by the end of the month it will be out again.

I don't think anybody got the 605.2 update. I believe it was pulled before release. The only people who had it were those that installed the leak.

I think the mods should change the title of this thread to: "Gingerbread 2.3 was here?!? Update was ROLLING OUT?!?"

So what is the patch floating around bringing those with 605.2 to 605.3?

I thought the OTA rolled out and then devs got their hands on it and found glaring bugs and then VZW pulled the plug.

The update was leaked, they found glaring bugs (not sure what though, since the most glaring bugs are still in it), and pulled the plug, made a couple of changes and released at 605.3.

I believe the file is for people who installed the leak to update to 605.3.
