State of Confusion (FL too)
Hello all...

Recently had this card recommended to me by a friend and found what looks like a pretty good deal for a Patriot 16GB Class 10 card at Amazon:

Amazon.com: Patriot Signature 16 GB Class 10 MicroSDHC Flash Memory Card PSF16GMCSDHC10: Electronics

And if you spend $25 of more, the "Super Saver" shipping option is FREE!

There is also a 32GB card but I believe that card is $71...

NOTE: I, myself, ordered two of the cards but have not tried the card in my phone. Read and be educated with reviews or other information before you buy...CAVEAT EMPTOR!! Always going to be some people not happy or having problems with an item that works fine for others but just wanted to share this deal in case someone was considering a speedy card...

if you guys, do not have this card, i highly recommend it. it is a class 10 card which is the main thing if especially if you plan on partitioning your card.

Well, now that you've said it, I'll give credit where credit is do..."my friend" was OCNBRZE who recommended the card to me. I just didn't want to throw him under the bus with the source of the recommendation in case people had problems so I posted it without proper credit.

So, now you guys can blame him!! :D;)

Mines coming in the mail tomorrow probably. Yay for free 2 day shipping.

It looks like most of the negative reviews on amazon are from people with the 32gb cards... Amazon lumps them all together in their reviews

Was wondering how you got free TWO day shipping? I think I saw that with a free trial of "Amazon Prime" (whateverthehelll that is) but the free "Super Saver" shipping I got is what I typically get...arrival in like 8 business days or something long-ish like that.

Ordered the 16 will report back. on that note can you just put the new card in and the rom will prepare and install what ever files are needed?
Or do you have to do a file transfer manualy

Don't quote but I'm pretty sure that that IS what would happen...

However, if you have certain data that your old card that either (1) you want to keep and have access to (pictures, backups, etc.) or (2) data that your apps rely upon/need/use, then you're going to have to transfer the stuff you need to your new card. I believe, with the latter scenario, one just simply "copy and pastes" the data from the old card to the new card. If I remember correctly, I believe that is what I did when I upgraded from my stock 8GB card to my current larger 16GB card.

If someone can confirm what I wrote above, that would be much appreciated. ALSO, once the card is partitioned, does the card mount on a desktop as two separate volumes?? When one copies data from the old non-partitioned card to the new partitioned card, should the data be copied to a specific volume (if there is one) or just "drag and drop" on the card mounted to the computer??

Thanks!

basically you will copy and paste your contents of your card onto the computer somewhere. then insert the new card. and you have two choices to do at this point:
1.you can just connect to the pc and paste back your contents of your previous card back onto the new card.

2.now is the best time to partition your card. you can do it at anytime, but since you have it and you do plan on doing it. why not now? just follow the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html. there is a partitioning section.

as far as once it is partitioned, nothing will really change as far as accessing your card via the computer or on the phone. everything is the same. just follow the guide and you will be good to go.

I'm fairly positive that "Amazon Prime" is some sort of Transformer, not anything to do with Amazon's site. :p

Amazon had a promotion sometime last year and gave a year of free amazon prime away to college students who signed up for it.

So naturally I'm using the free 2 day shipping for a year for everything possible. Its really nice....but not nice enough for me to pay for Prime after my year runs out.

I'll post this question here since you authored the above thread...feel free to move this question if necessary...

Under the "Partition Your Card" section, you recommend partitioning before flashing a ROM. First, since I'm already rooted having flashed the rooted 2.3.3 Gingerbread ROM, do I have any concerns here?

Secondly, going forward after partitioning, does your suggestion to wipe data (and sd ext) apply to stock ROMs as well or just custom ROMs?

Lastly, what does wiping sd ext. get rid of??

THANKS!!

1.no concerns, but the stock rom does not have a2sd cooked in. and i'm not sure if darktremors will work or not on stock. i would try mikg2.5 i believe that it has a2sd support.
2.when flashing a rom you would do your normal wipe (data, dalvik cache and cache at the least) and you would also wipe sd ext.
3.basically what a2sd does is that it creates a symbolic link on your phone to the apps that are on the ext3 of the card. by wiping sd ext you erase that link and start over when your flash the rom and then restore your apps. some roms will not load right if the sym links are still there on the card.

Hiya...

So, got my Class 10 card in the mail today...in the process of doing some reading up on partitioning in preparation for using cm or darktremors apps2sd! Looked into your mikg2.5 suggestion and was a bit confused...does that ROM have the apps2sd already integrated and READY TO go with my partitioned card or is it merely "compatible" and I have to install the darktremor or other apps2sd functionality on my phone once the ROM is installed??

THANKS!!

mikg2.5 and all mikroms for the most part will have darktremor included with the rom. once your partitioned just install mikg and the install your apps from titanium and they will automatically get installed onto your sd card.

wait... do the mikroms have cm a2sd or dt a2sd? i thought it was cm (the one that doesn't require me to know anything but restoring my apps to get them on the sd)... doesn't darktremor require some user input to do so? in another thread i read that mik3d has cm built in... i'm considering buying/partitioning a card and doing this app moving business but it has been confusing me. i am currently using mikg 2.51

With Mik3d, you just have to have the card partitioned per directions, use a fresh flash of the rom, and go to restoring your apps to the phone, it will do the rest.

I am not sure exactly what it did, as far as how much was moved or symbolic links and that stuff, but it put the apps on the card by itself.

I have tb pro, when you look at the overview screen, it shows you have an sd partition and stuff in it.

its been a looong time since I used a cm rom. and I have actually never heard of cm a2sd. and back when I did run a cm rom I thought it used darktremor, but they may have their own version.

darktremor doesn't have any command you need to make it run. but lets say your already on mikg 2.5 and you buy an sd card. partition it in recovery, then boot into the rom. you can then open a terminal and run a command to move your apps over. any newly installed apps will automatically get moved over.

the easiest way is to just flash a new rom ( or reflash the same) and then install your apps from titanium and they will automatically get moved over.

I bet the cm version of this works about the same.

one very important thing is to NOT use the native move apps to sd that comes with the phone, or any app from the market.
