Update to Fix camera Issues?

So I haven't really used the camera on the Bionic a whole lot, until tonight! I must say the capability to take beautiful clear pics is there. However, it sometimes takes multiple times of snappin away to get that one clear shot. Meaning the auto focus has way to much of a delay. Also the Lag within the Camera app is pretty painful and annoying when changing the settings.

So what I'm wondering is if an update would be able to correct all of this stuff?

You should really check out Vignette. I was pretty upset at the stock Camera App and its horrible pictures at times, then I gave the free version of Vignette a shot after multiple recommendations. Even the free version, limited to 1.3MP and small pics when uploaded on the comp were nicer than the stock photos taken with the stock application, so I bought it within like 4 hours.

Love it!

Could someone post a few comparison shots between this app and the stock camera app? I for one would like to compare and make sure it's worth it :)

Also, if anyone else has another camera app that seems to fix the issue, feel free to share it + comparison pics if possible! This might turn into a "temporary workarounds for the Bionic Camera Quality" thread till an OTA update comes ;)

I really hope that Moto fixes their own camera app because its really making people believe that the actual camera is bad when its the app itself that's bad. I hope they even knew about the issue in the first place and just couldn't resolve it quickly enough before launch.

There is another thread on here with some comparison pics between Vignette and stock app but im on my phone and unable to link to it. I believe its called "Pictures with your Bionic" or something like that.

In general, Vignette is much better at dealing with focusing and speed. I've done quite a few personal comparison shots and Vignette always came out better in terms of clarity and speed. The stock camera app is just bad and really needs an update to fix it.

I actually bought this app and am not that satisfied with it. It will randomly turn the picture sideways so you have to exit and re-enter the app for the camera to be facing the correct direction. Has this ever happened to you?

I agree! I think the Camera is just fine, and it's software related. As for Vignette, still having that crazy sideways issue we found a few days ago V :(

Unfortunately we'll just have to wait until the developers fix the problem. I hope they are attempting to fix it and not just ignoring it. At least I believe that Moto is going to fix this issue since its apparently affecting all Bionics and is well known.

The camera issue for me is a deal breaker.
Its not like Moto didn't know about it (and if they didn't there quality control sux), and that tell me alot about their customer service..basically they don't care, just sell the phone.

I'll wait and see if a fix comes soon. I need a new phone (have the Eris....) but am not a run right out and buy the latest and not so greatest...

Hopefully the Prime does better quality control, so I will have a choice.

Prime will be a Samsung phone, and they're optics are pretty much on point. However, After plenty of use with the DROID Bionic stock camera, I can honestly say its takes really good clear pics ....you just have to be patient with the auto focus. Once an update is pushed out, the Bionics camera will pretty much be the clearest shooter out there IMO.

So I tried vignette this morning... Still pretty slow, but faster than moto blur (Heh!). Love all the cool effects, though. I may try one of the multi-shot apps next!

I am in the same boat too, I am actually considering returning it. It doesn't make sense to wait & see if Moto fixes it. What if they don't? Then we are stuck with a crappy camera? Not so sure I like that idea. My camera is also focusing improperly, I was at 3 concerts last week & couldn't take a single good shot at any of them. All of the shots were blurry, it seems anything further than 15 feet away does not focus properly in my phone.

I am a photographer and one thing people fail to realize is that any digital image that you take will never be optimized, you need to tweak them use photoshop or any other image app to do so, I have had no problems with my camera function and i have tweaked some of the images a bit and they are coming out great for the type camera that is included here.

You can't 'tweak' autofocus speed. Or how long it takes to take a picture. You can adjust it afterwards, unless it's blurry from autofocus issues. This is one of the reason I won't be purchasing a Bionic. This and the locked bootloader...and the subpar screen....I hated the camera on the Droid due to very slow shutter and focus issues and I'm not jumping in that boat again....

The biggest problem I have is if you point it in the direction of any light it goes black. I take the pix and they are still black even if the flash is on.

You cameras exposure meter may be defective. Its supposed to meter the exposure according to light but if the lights are not super bright you may have a defective unit.

Go to a Verizon store and get a demo and point them both at the same thing.

None of the stores around here have live ones you can play with. Do you have one? If you do try it and see for me please. My husband xperia play does the same thing.
