Here's my favorite:

In all honesty...how does an iphone come back from that?

This is not a hate thread, and I don't usually insult other people's phones, and i really don't actually have pre set up comebacks for such. That's easy:

a) the iPhone is pretty nice....and works....without frequent lag

b) open source does not always mean better

I like my Nexus One. But it, nor any other Android phone on the market is going to be a threat to the iPhones dominance anytime soon. Just image how dominant the iPhone would be if it were available on Verizon. It's amazing they've got that much market penetration with just one carrier.

...heck, it would almost be a perfect fit for Verizon seeing as how they limit what you can do on their phones while on a call.

I hate to be the one to break this to you....But you bought the Nexus One due to marketing. Unless you were involved in the development, you were sold the phone through a form of marketing.

I think the single largest factor that made the iPhone so popular is that it works well and runs smooth. Like it or not, the iPhone is the phone to beat, and the quirks/issues with the Android system are going to keep it from unseating the iPhone for the foreseeable future.

What amazes me is how the Android community just blindly accepts flaws and keeps on marching to the beat of the drum. Android is the Windows Vista of phone operating systems. Sure it has some great features, but it doesn't really do any of them with great efficiency and/or reliability. I hope it gets there...but it's going to take a LONG time at the current rate.

Most people who get an iPhone, on the other hand, know nothing about its specs, software, the closed nature of its system and so on. They get it because it looks shiny and there's an Apple logo on the thing; same reason a lot of people will be purchasing the iPad on release day, and likewise why a lot of people continue to buy Mac computers--even if they're overpriced and grant the user very little control. They buy into the "it just works" bull even though nothing really "just works." When they run into problems, they excuse them and mumble something asinine like "at least it's not made by Microsoft."

Not sure if you're capable of distinguishing the difference between "I understand the flaws and positives of a device" and "I don't know shit about this but everyone else is using it, so I should get one too!" in the midst of your buyer's remorse funk, but there you have it.

That's hilarious, because that's what Mactards do while worshiping at the Jobs altar. Can't multi-task? "We don't need it anyway." Closed app store? "Well, open-source would probably suck and there won't be quality control." (Never mind the "fart" apps.) Can't customize shit out of the box? "Who needs a wallpaper/different icon arrangement/anything that's not one page after another of messy icons, I like it how it is, Apple knows best." iPad doesn't support Flash? "Flash is a buggy mess, who'd want it?"

Calling forum hunting , FCC hunting , and roadmap anticipation "marketing".

Thats how a vast majority of us here got wind of and decided to buy the nexus one. Most of us clicked purchase in our heads the instant the specs were official.

Comparing that to the lemmings who buy iPhones as fashion products based ONLY on mainstream advertising is ridiculous.

There isnt a flaw people arent pissed and vocal about. In case you havent noticed the reason we are here is because Winmo/Palm OS/Iphone are inferior options. Which mobile OS doesnt have GLARING flaws ??

Disasterously ugly UI and dated OS ?
Weak hardware selection and virtually non existent App store ?
Crippled Media phone ?

Android OS has some seriously mind numbing flaws but the trade off is far less than with other mobile platforms.

Make no mistake the VAST majority of forum going Android users would love to lock up the Google Devs/Rubin/Schmidt and not release them until several fixes upgrades are made. What else can we do other than bitch and moan the way we do ?...go to another platform with shittier options ??

The most precious part is that I've nowhere, in this thread or elsewhere, particularly defended Android. Mocking iPhone users and pointing out that his argument is at best ironic, at worst hypocritical is... oddly enough, not the same as rabidly defending anything. Basic logic isn't at work here, though, so what the hell.

If people "accepted flaws and keep marching to the beat of the drum," nobody'd be seeking out custom ROMs and flashing them.

Most of the people ranting on the iPhone are Android apologists....which are no different than the iPhone apologists. I have no problem with those of us here that talk about issues and hope for fixes. I just think it's funny that some of the people slamming the iPhone are the same ones that respond to some threads with "I have not had that problem"....even to known issues that affect every phone. Case and point, the Polar Clock glitch. A feature Google showed the phone off with....launched it with it not working. Granted they fixed that with the new update.

Point being, some people here would rather bash the iPhone than talk about issues with their own. To each their own and they can live in all the denial they want. I simply wish the N1 was able to utilize it's power in a more efficient manner. Either way i'm just happy I don't have to deal with AT&T.

N1 under the hood is already better. Combined with superior call quality thanks to their "two mic technology," integrated voice keyboard, 5MP Camera w/ flash and video, customizable UI and OS and a 3.7" AMOLED screen, it is obvious what phone is already better.

I don't know why the debate veered off into which OS has issues; all OS's will have issues, and Android isn't only partial to the N1, its also on other phones, unlike iPhone's OS. Both iPhone and Android have thriving communities who care about their platform and contribute value. There is no need to try and distinguish which community is better given the zealotry. This is not what this guy is talking about.

This is about what is a better phone, and how to communicate that to people who do not agree.

Just memorize the specs and features list and sound them off verbatim. If one doesn't understand the power of this phone, then they never will because they don't care. That's the difference between this phone and the iPhone. Earlier, the iPhone met the fancy of tech geeks and tech illiterate alike because the iPhone WAS the better all-in-one multimedia smartphone. The N1 changed that. People will only pay attention though when the illuminated differences speak for themselves. Its only worth speaking to those who appreciate those differences.

I have several co-workers that have the iPhone. We developed an app for it (as well as android, webos, brew, blackberry).

They found out that I was very interested in android and the bs comments started flying. I start out by praising what the iPhone does (I have a retired iPod touch). I then go on to talk about some of the awesome apps and features that my droid has. It shuts them up instantly.

Example: I'm in a meeting discussing our iPhone app. Everyone is asked to turn their phones to vibrate. I was the only person that just sat there. My boss aked me again to turn off my ringer and I told him it happened automatically. He asked how and I went on to show everyone in the room Timeriffic. I had set it up to change my settings for the meeting time. I asked if anyone elase had an app like that. Our head programmer was the only person to answer YES (he got an HTC hero free at the sprint dev conference). The iphone users said that they can't have more that 1 app running at a time. I knew this but it was the perfect chance to shut them up after all the smack talking.

It's the little things that put a smile on my face.
