hi all. im new to SII.

its a great phone but only found out 1 problem after owning it for a few days.

my wireless router is 1 meter away from me but the wifi constantly drops if i leave the phone (not using it)on the desk for about 10-15 mins.

the strange thing is on the notification bar, the wifi strength signal bar is still connected & showing FULL.but the phone just wont load any page in the browser or any app requires wifi wont work at all. apparently this is no network connection when this happens.

the only thing i can do is turn off wifi and turn it back on to connect then its fine. then goes bad again..

this been happening all the time, every time i get connected and droped(if untouched for a while)

I google'd but didnt find any solution or very few out there have mentioned this problem.but most of them have really poor wifi signals, especially from a far range, but my SII has good signal strength, the dropping thing is the what im experiencing only!

anyone has got the same problem!?is there a fix for it?!any suggestions??

thanks!!

[ps:my SII is not rooted or hacked as I prefer to let it stay at the factory state.]

Check your wi-fi sleep policy.
Go into menu>settings>wireless networks>menu>advanced

Set it to Never or Never when charging.

Having said this, I've tried it on the screen off setting, and the connection fires back up for me all the time.
Worth a try tho

its alwayz been on Never. but thanks.

the point is i want the wifi to be constantly connected . bcz u dont wanna miss any free online msg or skype calls from friends do you. so it has never to do with whether the screen is on or not

I have the same problem, but not to the same extent. But I have it with all my devices (iPad, iMac, iPhone and SG2), its just not as frequant as yours. Generally, a stop/start of the wifi on the device will resolve it, i place the blame with my router. Refreshing or restarting the router will stop it happening for a few days. I assume its an ip address conflict or something, im just not that motivated to investigate further.

It could well be router related.
I dont have any problems (touch wood) at home, but at work, I can only browse successfully straight after booting the GS2, and then it only lasts at best for under a minute. If I re-boot, or switch wifi off/on via the notification bar, then browsing returns again for under a minute.
I've not got to the bottom of this yet, but there is some sort of DNS issue going on.

Over the weekend I rooted and installed Revolution ROM with ninphetimine kernel, so I will see if this makes any difference at work, but I doubt it.

Try refreshing your current one before spending money. If it sorts it, you know its the router

Lately I had this problem of my SG2 not connecting to wifi after 5-10 minutes of turning it on. Finally, tried unplugging power connector to my router and re-connecting after a few minutes. Now everything works like it should. Thank goodness now I don't have to return SG2 for warranty service!
