I Personally found their talk of the Galaxy S III much more interesting. They didn’t have a working model of the phone, but they had pictures and slides with specs/info:
- Samsung is planning to reveal the Samsung Galaxy S III at the 2012 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Samsung will try to get a simultaneous worldwide release for the Galaxy S III mid 2012.

- The Samsung representatives were happy with the success of the Samsung Galaxy S and Samsung Galaxy S II, their great relationship with Google and Android, and were talking about how they’re constantly trying to push the boundaries of mobile hardware technology. They revealed that the Galaxy S III will be their next flagship phone in 2012.

- The specifications for the SGSIII are of course subject to change, but are Samsung-developed 2.0GHz quad-core CPU (no codename given), 1.5gb RAM, 32gb internal memory (with sd card slot), and a 4.65 inch screen. A new display called Super AMOLED III is being developed specifically for the phone (SGS had Super AMOLED, SGS II had Super AMOLED Plus, SGS III has Super AMOLED III) with 1280x1024 resolution, giving the phone a ppi of 352, which they emphasized that a 352ppi will make it the highest ppi mobile phone.
- The reason for no demo phone was that the screen technology was still in the final stages of design and production of them have not started.
- The device is 9mm thick, has a metal and glass body (a really clean, shiny look to it in the pictures), has a 2250mAh battery, 10 megapixel camera and is capable of shooting 1080p video at 60 frames per second.

- The phone will come with an inbuilt NFC chip.
- The phone will have Androids latest Ice Cream Sandwich software and an all new TouchWiz 5 which has been in co-development with Google during the development of the Galaxy Nexus, so according to the Samsung representatives, it isn’t as “intrusive to Android” as previous TouchWiz versions were. It seems TouchWiz will play a minor role and only have little improvements to ICS. It won’t control the user experience.
- One of the reasons why they’re not going with a full TouchWiz experience is for a few reasons, one being that the ICS experience is very user friendly already and also it will also Samsung to update software on their phones at a faster rate than they have in the past.
- Price wasn’t revealed, but for all the specs of the phone, I’m guessing it’ll be very expensive.

I will probably change my mind if/when it comes out. It's a very early rumour so anything could happen between now and then.

I used to think the 3.5" screen of the iPhone was big!

Personally I think the screen size would be too big, the SGS2 is bordering on the limit for me and anything bigger and you are getting into tablet territory, maybe thats how the new phones will evolve but for sure I want a phone that will fit in my pocket and not carry it in a bag lol.
The spec sounds really good though, there will be no need for laptops soon

I think Samsung have fit the nail on the head with the really thin device idea though. My SGS2 slides in and out of my pocket with ease but my Desire sometimes got caught!

I'm calling bs on this for a couple of reasons.

1. 1280x1024 res. On a 4.65" display?? That's going to break many existing apps, especially games.

2. 9mm thick. With twice the processing power, a higher-density camera sensor, NFC chip and a higher-capacity battery they'll still manage to make it even thinner than the GS2?

I'd like to be proved wrong, but I reckon this is nothing more than somebody's wish-list.

Yeah most 2000+mAh batteries require special back covers and make the device about twice as thick.. so I'm calling BS on that as well.

A higher res display, larger display, faster processor, higher-density camera sensor and NFC chip all sound plausible though. With a larger display, the phone will be wider/longer so that would allow extra space for the additional space required by the new components.

One thing you guys are forgetting, on ICS there is no need for physical buttons, so there won't be any buttons at the bottom taking up space. That means the phone itself could still be about the same size as the SGS2, but with a bigger screen!

On number 2.. I'm thinking the GS2 was/is marketed as 8.5mm (8.49mm) thick, so 9mm would not be thinner.

You're quite right Screech, for some reason I had it in my head that it was 9.5mm. I still don't buy it though.

I'm not saying I buy it either. Nearly double the CPU clock speed and double the cores... doesn't sound like a good marketing direction to me. I can see it having 2 cores and ~2Ghz or 4 cores at ~1Ghz, but 4 cores at ~2Ghz is too much too fast for the market. Even if they could make it that fast for marketing reasons I think they would hold that processor back to make sure they have an improvement on the next model to give you something else to buy.

Well, the game console market is very different than the mobile phone market. There is no real direct comparison, but I think comparing the phone market to game console software market is better than game console market. The hardware is fixed for the lifetime of that hardware, minus some firmware/capacity changes (though the PS3 got weaker with newer hardware: removed PS2 and SACD support and reduced USB ports. Even had firmware released to remove Linux support from already of sold units, Linux support was a major reason for my purchase as it allowed me to test and work with PPC arch code in Linux). They could make games on console release day that use 100% of the console hardware, but they never due. Game console developers always release hindered development kits to software developers and in phases add more access to the hardware and features with development software updates through the life of a given console. In the game console market they make their money on the games and need to give you a reason to buy the newer games, having better picture and sound helps. On the hardware they take a loss in most cases.

In the phone market they make their money on the hardware. So they need a constant stream of "newer/better" hardware to get all those that feel they must have bleeding edge tech to buy them. I admit, I buy bleeding edge when I'm in the need of a new hardware, but that is so that it will hopefully be longer before I need a new one. You are right there is no need for a 2Ghz quad core unit next summer, but I think it is because there are plenty of middle ground between current products and that spec to sell.

its only early spec so hold your horses even if half of it is bullsh*t it still looks good and is going proper way in future i know it will have to (and will be!) better than iSh*t 5 so let be more optimistic and wait for some true, officially confirmed info...
