Help Location of Gingerbread Update File on Phone?

So I was in a city that received the update - it downloaded to my phone and stated it was ready to be installed. I chose to not install it. Now I have moved to another city where the update has not rolled out yet, and the alert never comes up to update the phone - even though supposedly the update file already downloaded to the phone. Any idea where this file is so i can force it to run and update my phone??

First off, the update is not based on location...period.

Second of all, have you gone to settings>About phone>System Updates?

First off, that is strange since people in different cities were in fact getting the update on different dates (or not getting it at all). Also, my friend has the same phone in a different city 2 hours away and did not get the update, yet I did.

Second of all, yes I've gone to that settings screen and although the update was previously downloaded OTA and "ready to install" it has not and I am still on Version 2.2

Verizon sends the updates to phones in a random order and your city, state, date of purchase, etc. do not determine when you will get it.
When you phone gets queued for the update by Verizon it will get it no matter your location.

To access the update file you have to be rooted and use a file explorer to look in the cache folder in the root directory of the phone. You would then have to move this file to the sdcard and rename it either update.zip or PB31IMG.zip, I can't remember which, and flash it through hboot. Doing it this way I believe will wipe all the data from the phone so back up what you need just in case.

I doubt that it is truly by-the-definition random. <--Nitpick

OP- many people on the GB thread have had the same issue as you (without the factor of moving) and the advice there has been simply to wait until is is pushed to your phone again.

The best evidence I can give for it being random is that I've owned 2 android phones with at least 5 updates pushed to them in 2 years and I've never gotten an update at the same time, or close to it, in a roll out. Some have been the first day others have been weeks into it. If it wasn't random I should get all my updates pretty much around the same time. From my old programming classes in college many years ago it was easier to write code to randomly grab x amount of numbers out of a database than to have to set it up in some type of order. I'm sure it hasn't changed much since.

Not sure what you can see there, if anything, without root. But that's the location of the download.

reddiamond, if you care enough you can download the update file from the server and update manually. It's the same exact file and the same exact installation method, only you're forcing the update. The main ota thread has a link to that I believe, i think a couple pages ago (you do not want the RUU, unless you're planning on doing a factory reset anyways).

Strange enough but the randomness on HTC updates actually come from 2 factors. When the update is available to your phone and when your phone actually checks for it.

It is absolutely correct to say there is no specific factor that you will be able to pinpoint as to when you will get it. Also it is true that it is not completely random either.
