What do you think will happen to the price

on the Epic if both iPhone and Prime drop at Sprint in the next couple of months? I think this phone is already well priced for those who are upgrading. Do you think it will stay the same for a while?

The prime won't drop on sprint first. Similar to the nexus s it will launch unlocked then make it's way to CDMA later. This prob won't happen till march at least. The epic 4g touch is sprints best phone. Not just Android but phone in general. This includes the iPhone 5. Sprint knows they have the baddest phone on the market and their not going to drop the price for awhile. Besides, 200 bucks is a steal. They could've charged 300 like Verizon does and we would've all still bought it.

I second this.

Gonna have to disagree.... a person would have to be certifiably insane to get rid of the Sg2 for a IPhone.
Not necessarily. I agree with you in that I prefer Android over iOS. I like the cutting edge aspect and flexibility in customizing the interface to my liking.

But there's a significant segment out there that doesn't really care for the tech savvy appeal, or different manufacturers' versions of the same OS that don't appear to resemble one another at first glance (ie Touchwiz vs HTC Sense vs Motoblur vs plain vanilla AOSP). They don't want to bother with setup. They don't mind doing things Steve Jobs' way, period. They don't care about multitasking, who has the best cut & paste (or who had it first), etc. They just want it to look like their iPod or iPad, or their friends' cool phone without having to mess with it, and they're happy. Besides that, there are a good many apps common to both platforms that look and/or work better on an iPhone.

These people aren't insane, they're just a different market segment, as entitled to their own opinions, preferences and priorities as you or I. They're very happy with their iPhones, I like my Android, and I say to each his own. There's plenty of room for both to be cool.

The person your describing wouldn't have bought a GSII to begin with therefore they wouldn't be selling it to get an iPhone 5 and creating used GSII phones. A person that buys an epic 4g touch knows exactly what they're buying, a person that doesnt know what to look for buys an Evo 3D because the salesman told them to so he could get some of those internal points that sprint uses to reward employees for selling crappy phones.

Maybe, maybe not. You've got a whole lot of generalizing all rolled up into that post. No one really knows *exactly* what they're getting in an ET4g yet, including tech savvy people such as yourself. ICS comes out next month, who knows how long it'll take for the ET4g to get it? How long did it take to fix glaring Epic bugs like lag, GPS, or roll out Froyo, much less GB? IMO, Samsung's ability and/or willingness to support this phone is a wild card, and their track record isn't helping them any. If you're a rooter, how many true GB ROMs are available for the Epic other than CM7? How will the ET4g fare?

Hopefully, this phone will be a win-win on all fronts. There's also ample precedent that there could be any number of reasons for early adopters to choose to move on, and next month the iPhone will be very popular option. Why do you think that on the very same day that Sprint launched this phone, they also cut the trial/return window to 14 days?

That makes no sense, to sprint, the best phone is the one that people want the most, and the Epic name in general has not been that. If it doesn't sell, which the demand (and supply) suggests it's not, then the price will drop. Samsung/Sprint have done a horrible job promoting the phone and the sales will reflect that. The size of it will also eliminate a large number of people, not to mention the release date was already behind the 8-ball to begin with.

I'm not sure how soon, because I haven't studied the trends, but the price on this phone will go down especially when the inventory piles up due to lack of sales.

That's not my opinion of the phone itself, rather Sprint's marketing of it thus far.

Yeah...Sprint doesn't do a very good job in marketing their phones. They should be marketing the hell out of this phone and the photon. I just saw a photon commercial for the 2nd time today, but, can't recall the last time I saw one before that. Plus, i've onlye seen 1 Samsung Glaxy SII commercial for Sprint. They need to step their game up. Plus, if people really wanted a crappy iPhone they wouldn't have bought this, they would have waited a few more weeks.

The original epic 4g was sprints 2nd best selling phone up till 2 months ago. 1st was the original evo and it still is first. 2nd place is now the photon. The original epic sold a ton even though it wasn't super awesome and despite samsungs lack of support. The average Joe doesn't keep up with the current versions of android but does walk into a store and ask what the best/ most powerful phone is that they offer. Now at this point it's up tp the salemans opinion but the epic touch is hands down sprints most powerful phone and the most powerful android phone today.

And sprint cut the Epic price only what, 3-4 months after release? Besides, the Epic touch was:

The First Galaxy S phone with 4g
The First Galaxy S phone with a physical keyboard (I think)
The First Galaxy S phone on Sprint
The Second 4G phone in the country

Those things alone are enough to sell a ton of phones.

The Epic Touch isn't the first to anything other than a 4.5 inch screen. And has miraculously been promoted even less than the original Epic and has a lot more competition (No major player from Motorola last year).

Not exactly what you picture from the best selling line of Android phone in the world is it?

But anyways, time will tell.

You need a minor edit, your list was meant for the Epic 4g, not the Epic Touch.

The epic touch has a few firsts.
First on sprint with super amoled +
first with a 4.52 inch screen in the US
First with a 1800 mah battery
First with touchwiz 4.0
Thinnest phone on sprint by far
First in the US with the exynos processor

These items are all important. There is only so much they can keep adding to phones lol

We'll see in a few weeks. Personally, I am expecting a huge sell off of many Sprint phones as people seek a means to fund an iPhone off contract.

I personally don't see the appeal of the iPhone, but then again, I don't know what the iPhone5 or the new iOS have to offer. For many the iPhone name is enough.

These are my thoughts as well. The Touch is a great phone and an amazing value for those who are upgrading. Still, iPhones will be gobbled up by many who won't even consider Android phones. The lack of advertising for Epic and the fact that many die-hard Android fans are holding out for Nexus makes me wonder if Epic's sales and price will plummet.

I've ordered an ET4g for my wife to replace her un-rooted, stock Hero (yes, like Fieros, there are still a few out there). She will like the phone just fine but she'll struggle with some of the settings, apps, etc., just like she did with her Hero. When the iphone is released on Sprint she will beg me for one. After making her "work" for it ;), I'll get her one and she will love it because of it's simplicity and ease of use. She could not be less tech savvy; she is right smack in the middle of Apple's target market. Then I will replace my Evo 4g with her "old" ET4g. I'm hoping for an early Oct. iphone release!

I was running a similar strategy to yours until Sprint threw the 14 day curve. My Evo still runs great on custom ROMs, so I'm holding out in hopes that the Nexus Prime will eventually land in Sprint's lineup. If not, there's always the next great superphone just around some near-mid future corner, or possibly a price drop on the ET4g once Sprint crosses over to the dark side.

But my wife's Pre is falling apart (volume rocker detached), so she really needs an upgrade. She is not tech savvy, and really doesn't care for smartphones at all, but we need Google Voice for international calls. She wants an iPhone because her friends all have them, but I've been trying to show her Android's merits and why I prefer it. I'd planned to surprise her with a launch day ET4g for her birthday, hoping she'd like the big screen and the speed, and show her how a good set of widgets can make smartphone life easier. If she still didn't like it, I figured I could swap her into an iPhone next month. But Sprint shrunk the 30 day window down to 14, so I'm trying to limp her Pre along for another couple weeks or more. I suppose the upside is that now I can keep an eye on various forums and get a feel for early adopter response beyond the initial euphoria, bugs and glitches, and whether Samsung will provide adequate support this time around.

Good point about the new 14 day window. I ordered the ET4g because my wife had to have a new phone, her Hero is dead.

Like you, my Evo is rooted, rom'd and running great, certainly better than it did at release. There is absolutely no reason for me to upgrade... but I find myself getting caught up in the latest, greatest techie hype.

A funny story about iphone vs android target markets... one of my daughters (there are 5 of them aged 20-15) bought an iphone the day it was released on Verizon. She returned it the next day for a droid incredible. I asked why she returned the iphone and she said, "because it sucked." This is one is tech savvy.
