I successfully rooted my EVO 4G, but made the horrible mistake of accidentally accepting an HTC update. The update won't complete, freezing on upload. Now, whenever I close any application, the phone resets with a white HTC screen, so I have to wait for it to boot. Any suggestions?

Boot to hboot and make sure you have s-off still. Select recovery and make sure you can still get to recovery or if you get a red triangle, we can get your recovery back(as long as you still have s-off). Let us know what you have and we can go from there.

What does the hboot screen say exactly?
Type what you see on that screen and we'll go from there.
(volume down and power at the same time) first white screen with Andy riding a skateboard is hboot.

Did you create a nandroid backup of your previous setup? If so, go to backup and restore and restore the backup. If not, do you have a rom zip on your sdcard you can flash? Possibly the same one you were using? If not, I would recommend MikG2.5. You can download it to your pc then use mounts and storage to enable the usb connection to put it on your sdcard. Let us know which way you want to go but it should be easy enough to get you up and running again.

As I am fairly illiterate in this stuff, I was not prepared with back-ups yet, so it looks like I will be looking into MikG2.5. Thanks for all the help so far!!!!

Go here and download VR Superwipe.

Go here and download MikG 2.5.

Move them both to the root of your sdcard.
Wipe User data, cache, and dalvik-cache(under advanced).
Go to install zip from sdcard and select vr superwipe. Let it run.
When it is finished, select MikG2.5 and install it. When its done, select reboot. It will take a bit to finish. Let it settle and finish loading before you do anything. Sign in as normal and set it up how you like. When you are done with that, I would suggest going back to recovery and creating a nandroid backup of your current setup.
